I have had my dog since she was 8 weeks old. She had her 1st season at 9 months and ever since she has been very wary of strangers, especially new children although she has grown up with 7, 11 and 15 year olds and other young family members. Her behaviour is not extremely agressive but she seems to try to defend herself more for one reason or another. She is settled at home but new people seem to worry her when they approach her. Could this be her hormones? She is now aproaching 1 yr old.

Is this the bitch that you are considering breeding from?

No. We have decided not to breed from her.

Hi Redmavw

Puppies can go through a 'second fear' stage between 8 and 14 months (the first being much earlier at around 3 -4 months I think!).

During this stage of development they can become fearful of all sorts of things, even things they were not afraid of before.

Don't try to force your dog to meet people or let people foist themselves on her.  Act confident around your dog and play down her nervousness.  Hopefully it will pass just as quickly as it started.
