Tis i again the can't cook woman, the same old bloke that gave my husband the beetroot has today given him 2 bottles of damson wine (know what to do with that :D ) and a load of rhubarb.
What do i do with it? do i boil it? (its just to make rhubarb and custard).

Yes - or you can microwave it :) Trim the bottoms and the tops off and cut into pieces about an inch long. If microwaving, add a spoonful or two of water, cover and heat in microwave until soft. THEN add sugar and stir to dissolve it - you'll just have to judge how much to add - depends on your taste (never add sugar to fruit before microwaving, as it stops it breaking down).

I like to slice it fairly thinly and simmer it for about 5 minutes with some sugar and a shot of grenadine, well maybe 2 shots.

Good for you :) Discovering the delights of cooking with lovely, fresh, British seasonal ingredients :) Saving the the planet too from the high carbon costs of importing stuff from all over the globe.
Are you going to top it with a bit of crumble?

Doubt whether it will matter :) I often substitute a quarter of the flour for porridge oats and always use demerara sugar for the crumble :)

Wooohoooo all eaten!! saved some for the old bloke his wife died in 1980 so he has this little veg patch and gives all is stuff away as he can't use it all isnt that sad :(

Add some to a strawberry jelly it's delicious

I made some scrummy rhubarb muffins at the weekend :) They went down a treat ;)
I remember when I was young, living in the country, all the neighbours used to give each other fresh produce from their gardens. Loads of damsons, plums, apples, pears, cherries. Lots of beetroot and rhubarb, cauliflowers etc. Not only that, people used to make jam, squash, wine, and swap it with other people. Nice to see there are still people about who are generous :)
