Just wanted to know how easy it is to do this!
- By Isabel Date 18.07.06 19:51 UTC
I haven't, but a friend spray painted all his white goods bright red back in the 80's when that was quite the thing :)  It was very effective.

Yes we have. The best way to do it is to make sure the surface is clean and free from grease. Lightly rub down the surface to make a good key for the new paint and apply the paint in light coats to ensure that you don't get any runs. It is better to give a couple of light coats rather than one thick coat. Make sure you do it in a well ventilated space and you should really wear a mask when you do it.
Amongst the things we have re-painted are the washing machine, shower enclosure and our daughters computer to colour match it to her room but you have to be extra careful with electrical goods.

I wonder how expensive it would be to get a professional job done at a car repair place?
- By Sullysmum Date 18.07.06 20:25 UTC
Thanks,i would love pink..........i was also wondering about the car paint people just cant find any details on it ....im sure i heard someone did it on tv like colin and justin,at a car spray place?
- By Isabel Date 18.07.06 20:29 UTC
I think it would just be a question of phoning a couple of local car paint shops and asking for a quote wouldn't it?
- By Sullysmum Date 18.07.06 20:31 UTC

Way, way back in the mists of time  - ok early 70's, when a LARGE deep freeze was THE kitchen appliance, and we would buy whole cows, pigs and lambs, and go and pick our own strawberries, rasps and blackcurrants by the ton to freeze  .... I got fed up with this large white monster in my kitchen...... so I got loads of fablon "sticky backed plastic" of Blue Peter fame - and cut out flowers, smiley faces, clouds, magic roundabouts ..... and a wonderfully hippy/psychadelic freezer - it became quite a talking point and when we had a party peeps would come in to see it!

Oh no the memories. I was hoping I would forget this.

I was having a creative moment when I was in my last house, I decided to paint my kitchen aqua and lilac. And I had a white fridge freezer and decided that, I would paint it lilac to match the cupboards. But I couldn't move it out of the kitchen it was wedged in between the cupboards. No problem I thought, I'll paint what I can see, only I didn't think it'd be best to use spray paint, oh no I used gloss. What a bl***y disaster that was.

A few weeks after doing it I moved house to the one i am in now and the fridge freezer came with me. And everyone that walked past the kitchen could see this fridge freezer with lilac paint in the pattern of where it was wedged into the cupboards, needless to say one of the first things I did was go buy a new white fridge freezer which 5 1/2 years later is still white. (Apart from one of those fridge freezer sticky backed pictures penguins diving into the sea you can get from betterware).

Thankfully I have not had any more creative moments since.

Oh you did make me laugh,i have decided to leave the white things white and just get matching accessories in pink,i have the new morphy Richards pink/grey accents toaster and kettle, a pink wash basket,i am in the middle of painting the wooden handles of my old utensils, undercoat white then pink then varnish and will try not to put handle in water when washing up,the wallpaper is a beautiful german one with large blown different shades of baby pink and white huge roses which might sound funny but its really classy and designer looking, the council are re doing all our kitchens from scratch, and i am having white cabinets with either grey or grey/pink fleck work surface, im so excited! You will have to make an appointment to come in,lol!

A small update.........the top middle bottom edges of my fridge freezer had gone a yellow colour so today i painted them hot pink and then varnished them tonight, i left the main area still white ( going to put some little crystal hearts on the white)with the other new pink bits i have it looks nice, still waiting for the council to catch up and renew the whole kitchen though.

I spray painted the front of my dishwasher recently, it was easy to do and looked brand new afterwards.  We've since bought a new dishwasher so my old one was rehomed. the couple that had it couldn't understand why I had replaced it as it looked so new.

I know it sounds a daft question but did you do it in the kitchen or dismantle it and do it the garden and did paint go anywhere else when sprayed?
- By SharonM Date 05.08.06 19:17 UTC
Newspaper on the floor and surrounding area, sprayed it in the kitchen, didn't distmantle it.
- By Sullysmum Date 05.08.06 19:48 UTC
Thanks, what colour did you do it, and what make paint?
- By SharonM Date 06.08.06 10:44 UTC
I used a product called Plasti-kote....Projekt paint,  Appliance.....in gloss white, bought it in Focus Do it all for around £8 for a 400ml aerosol can.  They do it lots of different colours including stainless steel.

The best thing is that it's touch dry in 10 minutes.
