Hi
I am filling in my litter application form to have my puppies KC registered, this is my 1st time and could anyone explain what R & X Endorsement box mean, should I fill this in. If I wish to put an endorsement on the bitch puppies having a litter how do I go about that.
thanks
Patricia

The R and X are endorsements
Progeny not to be registered (R)
and Not for issue of a export pedigree.(X)
I put them on as it is easier to life them later.
You must make new owners aware of the restrictions and what they mean,
they must also sign something with you to accept they are there otherwise the KC will lift them without
your permission.
Hi Patricia
I put the endorsements on all the puppies - dogs and bitches. I draw up a contract that I get the purchasers to sign to say that they have been informed about this.
Thanks for your replies.
Probably I am a bit stupid but what exactly do the endorsements mean? How can I explain the endorsement to the new owners when i don't know what I am talking about. Please help. Which of these endorsements if any prohibits the new owners from breeding with their bitch without my permssion.
Hi Patricia
The endorsement Progeny not eligible for registration means that any offspring from that dog or bitch cannot be registered with the Kennel Club. (It does not stop people from breeding but I think it lessens the risk.) I explain this to my puppy buyers. You can lift the endorsement as the breeder at any time, you just have to write to the Kennel Club. I do not say that I will lift the endorsements in my contract.
Hope that helps a bit.

Most reputable breeders put both endorsements on all the puppies they sell, as a safeguard.
The 'Progeny not eligible for registration' endorsement (R) is the one which stops the new owners registering any puppies their dog or bitch might produce.
The other endorsement prohibits the new owner getting an export pedigree to breed puppies overseas.
The breeder (that's you!) can lift these endorsements at any time; this is usually done when the pup has grown up enough to be sensibly evaluated as to whether it's close enough to the breed standard to be good enough to breed from (usually by doing okay in the show ring or in the field) and has passed all the breed-relelvant health tests (hip-scoring, etc).

I always put this on my puppies, including any that I keep! OK - it means scrabbling around with paperwork later, if I have decided to have a litter/use a dog at stud - but at the time of registering dogs that I want to keep I still cannot know how they will turn out - I know how I HOPE they will turn out ...but nothing is written in stone at 6 weeks old.

You did check that YOUR bitch doesn't have any breeding restrictions on her didn't you? And the stud dog too? Just asking, as you don't seem to know much about the restrictions, so I hope you checked on both parents first!

Good point Husky!!
Yes I did check that my bitch and stud dog have no restrictions on them. I just wanted to know precisely what each endorsement meant before endorsing my puppies.

It is all spelled out on the form in the notes.
