:mad:i am so mad my boss has just told me that two beatiful Newfoundlands died in a hot car, while a crowd waited for the RSCPCA. I am furious why did'nt they call the police or smash a window but to watch them die is unbeleiveable i would have smashed the windows i would sooner be cahrged and bitten than to let two beautiful gentle giants die. The owner is being charged oh well that will stop him or anyone else next time he should be imprisoned. I own two of these beautiful dogs plus three others i will not walk them till midnight becasue of the heat, we are suppose to be at Ragley Hall this weekend but i am scared the heat will be to much for them travelling
even though my car has air conditioning. Plus how will they cope whilst there. Some people are so god damn irresponsible.

How many more of these awful tragedies before the media begins giving out as many warnings about animals as they do about children & elderly !

Hiya,

I think there's been a bit of chinese whispers going on with that.  It happened just a few miles up the road from me.  One of the newfies made a recovery, but it was unconcious when found, and they were found by the owners who returned to the car on the hottest day of the year after leaving the dogs in it for 4 hours!  I agree it doesn't matter what happens to the owners nothing will make it right or compare to what the animals must have gone through.  I don't really know what I think a suitable punishment would be, obviously they should never be allowed to own animals again, but I bet that won't be the case I bet it'll only be a maximum of soemthing like ten years tops - I don't really know enough about the law to know on that one.

Such things do rather bring out the worst thoughts in us don't they! :(

Quite a lot of people have been talking about this and said the same thing, the people should be put in a green house, hot car etc, and left to experince what the dogs did, while I can understand the sentiment behind that way of thinking, I think that would be as bad if not worse than what they did. Does any one know from a legal point of view what is likely to happen to these people?

I've no idea where the law stands for animals.
I saw on the news two cases of CHILDREN being left in the car! One woman was arrested and charged with neglect - I'm not sure about the other woman. I very much doubt the law dishes out a punishment that I would consider fitting....probably just get a slapped wrist

I think very few punishments fit the crime where our judicial/legal systems are concerned.
I'm just hoping that the Animnal Rights Bill currently going through will prevent some of the terrible things that happen to animals, or at least give out adequate punishment. The proposed fines (up to £20,000), having animals taken into care, and threat of prison sentences look good, but it remains to be seen how well implemented and publicised it becomes.
