Can somebody please explain, to someone who hasn't a clue, what 3 CCs means? Obviously something really desirable and a great achievement to earn them so i also send my congratulations to you but would love to know what I am congratulating you for :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 24.07.06 11:03 UTC
Three CCs, awarded by three different judges, are what's needed to become a Champion. :) :)
- By LucyD [gb] Date 24.07.06 11:04 UTC
Wow! Awesome result, very well done to you both! :-)
- By ridgielover Date 24.07.06 11:14 UTC
Hi Harley

A CC is a challenge certificate (awarded to the best of each sex at a championship show)  You have to win 3 CCs under different judges for your dog to become a champion.
- By Kash [gb] Date 24.07.06 12:39 UTC
Congratulations and very well done :-D

Thank you - do you have to have 3 to enter for Crufts then ?
- By leomad Date 24.07.06 13:24 UTC
Well done!!!
- By rachelsetters Date 24.07.06 13:24 UTC
Hi Harley

Thankfully no as don't think would ever get there - you just need to come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a qualifying class at a championship show that is awarding CC's.

Although I believe a Sh Ch is qualified for life as is a dog with a Junior Warrant?  Sure someone will come along to correct me on that!
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 24.07.06 13:30 UTC
Any dog with a stud book number is qualified for life under current rules.

SBN comes with a CC or reserve CC, a Junior Warrant and with certain class placings (which are dependent on the breed - all breeds are organised into stud book bands).

Sounds simple and almost easy doesn't it :)

It is arguably harder to make up a champion in the UK than anywhere else in the World.

Firstly the number of CC's available to be won varies from breed to breed depending on how large the entries are at shows.

In my breed which has low numbers, with only 116 pups registered last year we have 18 sets of CC's.

The CC will be awarded (assuming the exhibits have sufficient merit) to the best dog and best bitch at these shows.

There will be classes for each sex, usually at least puppy, Junior, Post Graduate, Limit and Open.

The first are based on age, and the others based on previous wins.

When all the classes for the sex have been judged the winners of each class will be called back into the ring to choose the best and reserve best of sex, and if appropriate be awarded the CC (challenge Certificate) and RCC (Reserve Challenge Certificate).

Unlike in some countries the dog has to beet all the entry in it's sex including existing champions (who are shown in the Open class in the UK).

Also a dog has to be over 12 months old to become a British champion, so if it has won all it's CC's under 12 months it will not be a champion until it wins another once adult.  this rarely happens except in some toy breeds.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.07.06 10:42 UTC
It's certainly easier to make up a champion in countries where existing champions are barred from competition for the qualifying awards than it is in the UK - which is why we have far fewer champions.

Thank you for a very informative reply. Easy  would be the last word I would have thought of and you have confirmed that with your post. I know nothing about showing but find it very interesting. Are there any sites that explain more about the showing process which have basic, readable information for someone who isn't going to show but would like to know more about that world?
Thank you.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 25.07.06 11:46 UTC
The kennel cub have a guide to showing that explains things.
http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/ and click on shows from the left hand list.
- By onetwothree [gb] Date 27.07.06 10:31 UTC
There is a good guide online here, although it is based on collies, the same principles apply for most other breeds:

http://www.mastamariner.com/activities_breed_showing.html

(PS it's a bit out of date in that Exemption Shows are now called Companion shows)
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 25.07.06 12:31 UTC
I used to think it was hardest here too Barbara, until I was told that in France only two dogs and two bitches are made up each year - apparently one ticket has to be won at one of the National breed club shows, of which there are two a year. I assume this is correct, as I know look a bit closer and there don't seem to be many French champions.

I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong.

It is the club show/s or the French National where you need to win a ticket, and then two others.

Friends of mine have moved to France and have managed to get their French title.  Sure it helps to have a breed with a  long show life.

I wonder if there is an unspoken agreement that anyone who has won a CAC at one of these shows does not enter there again?
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 25.07.06 12:58 UTC
Yes, I guess they have a fair few who get the two, but don't manage to get that rare third.

I certainly hope no-one would enter a dog who already has the CAC there again? Can you imagine how irritating it would be to get a RCAC behind one?

- By Brainless [gb] Date 25.07.06 13:47 UTC
Also I suppose a lot of pewople woudl be ahppy to try for a title in Belgium or Holland in addition or instead of the French one.
