Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Stops on walks

Hi
My 11 month EBT  has started to refuse to walk on a certain part of out daily walk.
I take her out at 5.45am, so pretty cool. We always walk up a quiet lane, then onto the fields for a run. Recently Molly has refused to continue up the lane, she just stands there. Molly doesn't looked stressed at all. I try to encourage with a treat or I do a little run, she may follow for a few seconds, then stops again. When I turn back home she is very happy! On the way home she has started to 'walk' on her tummy on the grass. The 'tummy walk' is usually used for greeting new people! (I think she thinks it's cleaver!)

Any ideas??

Thanks
Anne

erm, personally I feel she may need a check up at the vets, it's difficult on a board to know why she is stopping, but belly walking and refusing to go any further up the lane indicate to me maybe she has a problem with feet, legs, hips, and is happy to go so far but no further.  Unless she has been spooked by something up the lane and is now wary of going up there, but you don't mention that, so I would just get her checked out to be on the safe side.

Hi
thanks for that...
Molly did see 3 cats up the lane the other day she wasn't sure of....she's never seen a cat before! I wonder if that could be it...she runs around the garden fine, chasing flies!
I took her somewhere different on Sunday morning & she was fine. It seem you could be right about being spooked!
Molly does belly walk at home, like I say when she meets new people or fancies a bit of showing off.

Thanks

The belly walking is her submissively saying hello quite common with females, the cats may be the reason then, could stop due to fear or excitment and waiting for them to re-appear, if it is not a long lane, can you pick her up and carry her past the worrying/exciting bit for her, at least you can get her to the field, hopefully she will then walk back and the spell will be broken.

I will pick her up next time, altough she weighs over 20kg, it may be worth it!
Thanks for the explaination of the belly walking. She always seems to be pleased with herself when she does it & she nods her head from side to side. The more you say how clever she is the more she does it!
Thanks

Maybe she has burn't her pads or it the heat is uncomfortable on her paws, as i have posted on another thread the pavement gets very hot in the sun, especially these last few weeks, even on an evening. That would explain why she is walking on the grass.
