I am just updating my website but it wont publish. I get a message saying 550 filename not allowed. Does anyone know what I might have done wrong.

Are you with a web-server who provides the FP extensions for all of the files you're using?

Have just re-read and see you're updating an existing published site.  Follow the steps here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q194035/ for a 500 error and see how you get on :)

To be honest, my son created the site for me and I basically just add news and pics etc. Usually it publishes without any probs so even if I understand the info you linked to should I need to change any settings

It could be a temporary problem with your server - I've had the same error number before and twice it was a server error and another time it was a corrupt code.  Do you use the live edit button or an FTP programme?

ps. Also I would log out and in again to the server!

i have tried turning off pc but same thing happens. To publish I just click on button on top tool bar

OK, that's live editing :)   Does your web server not ask for a user name and password before you can progress to alterations / additions?  If so, log out completely and log back in again and see if that clears a possible fault in your status.   Your web server has to accept your PC and security measures before allowing you to proceed - usually an http 500 error is based on a problem with accepting the data.

Tried that still no change. I will ask son when he gets in but it took him forever to do site in first place. he is less than coperative when things go wrong :( Edited to say. Just checked and it has published all except for a new pic i have put on the main page. that has a red cross in the window?

if you want to (and only if so) you can pm me your web address and log-in details and I'll be better able to work out what's going wrong.  If you'd rather not of course I totally understand :)

In the meantime, have you tried to contact your web server to determine if the problem is somehow with them?

OK, you may not have given the correct file path for FP to locate the photo - I'd resend the photo and then refresh your browser.  If it's still not visible, delete your temporary internet files and refresh again.  Your can also use manual ftp to drag and drop the photo in if the path is somehow corrupted.
