Topic Other Boards / Foo / Banged the back of my head....
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 20.07.06 11:42 UTC
Doing some housework (I always knew there was a reason why I shouldn't do it:rolleyes:) and coming up from under the bed (just don;t ask!) I banged the back of my head on a sharp corner of the chest of drawers - ouch!   Been seeing stars and now I've jut realised its bleeding - can't see how much - hair is all sticky.

Now question is this - bearing in mind just how much small cuts can bleed and be nothing at all - should I take myself up to the local Minor injuries clinic?   Or do I leave it?????

I think I'm inclined to the latter ;)

Head wounds do bleed an awful lot even if its not a serious injury.  I'd wash it and leave it but if you feel at all sick or dizzy or get blurred vision I'd go and get checked out.  Even a small bang on the head can sometimes cause problems.  Hope its not hurting too much :)

I would get a neighbour to have a quick peek and see what they can see. But don't hesitate to go to A & E as you can never be too sure with head injuries! you may have mild concussion so get someone to take you there... Hope you will be o.k

If you are worried ring NHS Direct and ask there advice.

Can you just pop to your surgery as they will have a look and check you over :)

If your sight has been disturbed then yes I would go to be on the safe side ;)

Now Margot you will do silly things like housework :confused:

Perhaps you will learn bettter next time you get the urge :D

I think they have changed the way you deal with concussion nowadays because they said you were meant to keep the person awake but now they are more inclined to let you sleep it off so if you feel dozy - go and have a nice nap!!

I'm with Lucy here - give that housework a wide berth Margot    You know you can get ickle peeps to come in and it for you ;)

Hope you're OK.  Teri

Although I haven't got a headache as such - it b***y well hurts - if you can understand the difference (I think I'm lucid :D)

It's still sticky/slightly bloody, but not dripping down the back of my neck.

Trouble is - my nearest neighbours are a quarter of a mile away (and at work) and to get to the doctors OR Minor Injuries, I've got to hop in the car & drive myself 5 miles.........unless I grab an unsuspecting golfer off the golf course!

Why are all my friends at work/holiday/Peterborough when I need 'em????

The reason I was doing housework was because we've got peeps coming back for 3rd viewing at the weekend...........

Oh well -back to the settee for me for the rest of the afternoon, I think!

Sounds like a good plan to me ;)

Have you got a bag of peas? They would make the perfect ice pack for your poor head and might stop it hurting. What is this thing called 'housework'? Not part of my vocabulary.....

Just looked it up in my dictionary
Housework - Something other people do :)

Poor Margot, you really should see someone you know. When my youngest cut the back of his head (falling and hitting radiator) he needed stitches. However they glued it together. If its still bleeding I would get it seen to. Is there anyone at all you can phone? You could get delayed concussion :(

Hope you're OK Margot, take it easy and if you feel at all unwell get some help (somehow) :)

Last year Banya jumped on the bed as i bent down and I got a large cut across my forehead, it really hurt and blood was dripping onto my eyelid and down my face, it was rather gruesome! I was OK but it did hurt like billy-ooh for ages!

Margot. Take that as a harsh lesson NOT to do housework. What WERE you thinking?! :D
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 20.07.06 14:55 UTC
Oh come on! Margot obviously WASN'T thinking ;) :D

Yes, I could understand it if she was doing housework after a nasty knock to the head :)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 20.07.06 15:10 UTC
:D

Nick has just come home - he says the cut is about 5 cm long (how long is that in £sd???)  but its stopped bleeding, is clotting etc etc etc.

Head isn't hurting so much(thanks for reminding me about the bag of peas - I'm always the one who gets out the bag of mixed veg from the back of the freezer for everyone else - didn;t think of it for myself!)

I do apologise about the housework.........letting the side down in such a way .......can only attribute it to advancing years & the heat! :D :D

- By Emz77 [gb] Date 20.07.06 16:36 UTC
Margot there is roughly 2.5 cm to  1" so I would say 2 " cut, that must be quite impressive!!
