This is going to sound really stupid but I just dont know..........Are you allocated a space on a bench where you put your dog on a chain?
Is this space big enough to put the dogs cage on? We are booked in for our first UK show and having never been .................

I used to take my cages to Ch. Shows and they fitted on the bench, but dont know if this would be any good with a larger breed of dog. I don't think I have ever seen a benching chain.  Your bench number will be on your passes and your showing  number will be on your bench waiting for you. Dont do what I did at my first Ch show, I thought the judging was finished and walked out of the ring, the judge had only walked the dogs round in a circle, and I was too embarrassed to go back in the ring, still makes me blush thinking about it. LOL!!!!!! So all you novices out there we all make mistakes at our first shows.

Thanks for that, Our dog is a Westie type size, so the cage is roughly sized for that, I'm not certain of proper dimensions. Thankfully daughter (who is handling) has done plenty of handling practises. So should be a bit more ring happy. But glad to know cage will probably fit on that bench and don't have to chain him up there!

What breed are you taking? Each entered dog as a partitioned space on a bench where he can be chained - the space allowed varies between the breeds - obviously a wolfhound requires a larger space than a fox terrier, so it depends how big your cage is.

Is it an Open show or a Champ show? Open shows are almost never benched.

Ooh it's more complicated! It is a champ show, I have visions of 'wallpaper table' type benches (maybe sturdier) all in rows......He is a little terrier so hopefully will fit.

Hi.
I have used bench chains, but prefer to use cage (I use croft one) which fits perfectly. But i use the chain to attach cage to bench, they don't tend to move around but just in case. My BC is much more relaxed since changing to cage.
I have seen a few dogs fall off benches and are unable to get back on with chains. You really need to make sure the chain length is right so they are not strung up (too short) or too long so that they are able to jump down.

Have fun at your show.

Terriers are usually crated.
