Anyone have any ideas on what has caused our hot water to stop working? A couple of times over the last 6 months it has made a chugging sound and gone off for half an hour or so, but then come back on.
Last night it chugged and hot and cold both went off upstairs and down, toilets wouldn't even fill up, the cold water came back on within 30 mins but the hot still hasn't come on today.
Before I call a plumber to charge me a fortune, any ideas from anyone? We had a new water tank fitted about 3 years ago and the house is only 8 years old. :-(

I'm no expert on this but the "chugging" sounds like you may have an airlock somewhere in the system. Somewhere near the hot water tank should be a valve you can open to let the air out, might also be worth bleeding the radiators to see if there's any air in there.
Thanks, I shall go and have a look for a valve and see if twiddling it around does any help. :-)

Good Luck, hope all's back to normal soon without too much major expense for you :(
:-D LOL HuskeyGal! :-D
Not strong enough Shadbolts :-( to turn the valve/s, even with the tools, (drat!) so will have to wait for hubby to return (they do have their uses!) hope that will work then.
Lucky it is so hot, and have enjoyed having a nice cold shower today.
