I've never heard anything like that--taking the puppies away for a couple of weeks. But, it DOES make sense. I mean, bull terriors and other bull types are known to be more on the oggresive side. I would probably talk to a pro breader or give a call to the vet to confirm that this is okay. I've always been told that it's imperitave to keep the puppies with thier mom for atleast a couple of weeks-- 8 to be exact. This isn't neccecarily important--i have a friend who got two labs at 6 wks and they've gotton big and healthy! But, i would check for the puppies' sake.

i am a bull terrier breeder and i have been very lucky in the fact that all of my mums so far have been great.
When i have a litter i have the whelping box in my bedroom and i literally am in there 24 hrs a day
if the bitch choses to go with the pups full time then no problem but if they fancyabreak and want a potter around then thats when i take my break.
I find most breeders of bullies let the bitch feed the pups every 2 hrs and they have no other contact except cleaning etc.
this is the breeders choice
i personally wouldnt breed from a bitch if i though she was going too be that bad.
Bull Terriet bitches have been known to kill a litter of 10 in as many minutes or maybe kill a puppy a day.
others are so clumsy the dont mean it but the litter is lost through the breeder falling asleep or just leaving them alone.
if a bully bitch has a C section u always insist on them not letting here near the pups as i have known a bitch to come round and kill the litter.
bullis are prone to pre-eclampsia in a big was i use gallons of calo cal D and my vet also lets me take home calcium injections.
Quite honestly this breed is not a breed for the novice too be messing with gather lots ofadvice and have a exp breeder to hand.
other than that i can say my mums are fabulous and i would hate a mum which does the above..........
my mums have 8 weeks with there puppies i feel this is so very important to learn the discipline etc from there mums.
enough rambling
later all

The Eclampsia may be the key reaon for the infanticide, as this is a common side effect!

thats what i mean most people dont realise that they are very prone to eclampsia
when the pups are nearly 24 hrs old most bitches willstart to stareand pant andgonuts basically rushinground the house with pups in her mouth.
a simple blast of calo cal D willstop this for a few hours.
but some vets will not be told and novice breeders wont give the calcium injetion after whelping.
this simple act could stop the whole litter dying as mum goes whappy for a few mins.
this last for 2 weeks.

Hi all
Just thought I would update you with what had been going on. Well the vet lied he said that he phone at 7.00am and told me that lady needed a c section and that he wanted to do it right away. I was then suppose to say that I did not want him to do it and that I was going to pick her up at 9.30am to take her to my vet. He also said that the contraction did not stop at 5.30am like he told me and that he gives her the last injection at 5.30am. And the contractions did not stop till 6.15am. Also the report they give me to go to my vet was not the same as his hand written one. He could not change the computer printed one as he had already given it to me and on that it did say her contractions did stop at 5.30am. And he said that I did not know when lady went into labour, well I did know and I told him that to. His boss is very upset with him, as he believes me and not him. I told his boss to get an itemised phone bill and that would prove that he is lying and I would get mine he also said that he phoned me at gone 9.00am to find out when I would be there to pick up lady he lied there as well as I phoned them. I really can not believe this vet has done this he know that he was in the wrong with what he did to lady and Is trying to get out of it by lying. well I am not having it he has got to tell what really went on and that he only wanted the money and did not care about lady.

PS lady and her pup are doing really well

My freinds staff suffered what I thought was a slipped disc last sunday I called the vet who stated we had to pay £70 before he looked at him. He gave some anti inflamitorys and told us to come back a couple of days later. He is'nt my usual vet as mines is 60 miles away. I travel that distance to get a vet who likes my breed and if you dont have the money he will wait for it. His prices are also half what other vets have charged. Be careful, find a vet that suits your particular animals.

Mick.
