We have 7 beautiful puppies, they were born between 2:45 and 8:10 this morning. It was a long night!! There were 8 total but the first one was stillborn :( 6 boys and one girl and Mom is doing great. Thanks for all the support.

I would love to keep them all but she is a rescue and I am just fostering her and the pups,my husband and I want to at least keep one but I already have 5 dogs and plan on keeping Callie (mom). I have grown so attatched to her and I just can't let her go. So now that makes 6 dogs. They are adorable though so we'll see :D

You will find that a very special bond develops between you and Callie, as you are taking the place of a pack helping to provide for her litter, and therefore she is toatlly reliant on you!
I am glad ypou are going to keep her, and am sure you will be interogating all prospective adopters of her puppies, with the helpof the rescue you are working with.

Congratulations Liz :D
The first of many long nights!
It was a tense wait. Shame about the stillborn pup - perhaps it was meant to be :(
Glad Mom is doing fine :)

It was meant to be, the poor thing lost his sac long before delivery, he came out folded in half and his head looked flat and his intestines were out of his abdominal cavity. So it is natures way I guess, the poor little guy :( I am very thankful he wasn't alive then I would have had to watch him die.

Well done both!! Hope all goes smoothly and you can get some much needed sleep soon.

I suppose it is too early to tell what kind of cross they are? What colours? Just being nosey, as my breed they only come one colour, just the shade varies! LOL!!!
If you haven't been told alreqady keep th4e pups nails short, snip or bite off the little hooks on their nails (from about 4 days) so they don't tear at Mums Milk bar. Keep an eye on her mammmary glands to make sure none get hard and hot. If one seems over full put the strongest pups on it to drain it! Make sure you get the smallest pups on the best teats!
Expect the bitch to have a discharge for a while, but it should not smell offensive. Watch for staring into space and the bitch trying to bury and carry pups around, in an abnormal manner. This cdan be a sign of Eclampsia, a lack of Calcium in the bloodstream. If this happens quick attention is needed asit is dangerous. A shot of calcium (followed by supplements by mouth of a special liquid calcium will give almost miaraculous results). Study book of the bitch, I get mine out every time. It has useful charts that list normal neonatal development, and answers a lot of questions!
Feed the bitch her food soaked (she may have a sore mouth from cleaning pups, and it will be easier for her to get enough))in her bed about 4 times a day! She may eat as much as four times her normal ration. Mine seem to need a major increase in their food from the first few days, not like the books say!

Thanks for all the info. As far as the mix I have no idea but they are so beautiful, big heads, big puppies for that matter almost 1 lb each! 2 of them are brindle with white on the chest, 2 are black with white on the chest, 3 look like her, 1 white with brindle markings, 1 white with black markings and 1 white with brown markings outlined in black. They all still seem strong this morning so I am praying it stays that way. Mom looks wonderful, she is very tired but being such a great mom. I picked up the clean out shot yesterday instead of bringing her in.
Thanks for everything Liz
