Hi dog lovers please can i have some suggestions my sbt is 15mnths old and just lately her eyes have a green goo almost like a bad case of sleep but no sooner i clean them its back again they look slightly red and sore almost like mine when my hayfever starts up she also seems to hang her head lower than normal and just a hour ago bought up some bile she is due her booster this month and hasnt had that as yet  HELP PLEASE????????????

You need to get to the Vet, as it sounds like an eye infection/conjunctivitis.  Left untreated it could damage her eyes and sight.

Oh my god i never knew that i had in my mind hayfever as they look red and watery thankyou must get to the vet a.s.a.p in the morning thanks again

It may be irritation like hay-fever, but green discharge normally means infection, bit like with our own nasal discharge.

After my Mum had her cateract operation, she was advised to rinse her eyes with a mild solution of baby shampoo and water to stop infection - maybe this would help until you can get your dog to the vets.

I would never put detergent in any eye no matter how mild.  the best thing to use would be sterile saline (salt water) until you can see the vet, or any eye lotion like Optrex.

See a vet, but for now put a teabag in hot water, leave it to go cold then bathe the eye with the COLD teabag.

Good luck at the vets.

Happygirl, I'm no expert, and this is purely my own logic, but I wouldn't dream of putting salt water on an eye, doesn't salt dry up the skin etc, it is great for healing wounds and ulcers etc, but the eye is liquid, wouldn't salt be dangerous to put to the eye??

I agree with Brainless sounds like conjunctivitis a vet will give a correct diagnosis and a liquid to clear up the eye.

Carrington, unless I'm wrong (and its a strong possibility) but aren't tears salt water? so it should be ok to put salt in eye and the eye baths you can buy are often a saline mix.
- By Moonmaiden Date 16.07.06 09:31 UTC
Natural tears contain the following water, mucin, lipids, lysozyme, lactoferrin, lipocalin, lacritin, immunoglobulins, glucose, urea, sodium, and potassium.so bathing with salt water or saline is not dangerous provided there isn't too much salt in the solution-no more than 1g per 100ml & the water should be boiled & cooled

Of course, thanks cheekychow and Moonmaiden how could eye :-D forget tears contain salt!
- By Alexanders [gb] Date 15.07.06 09:12 UTC
My Mum was advised to do this by an eye surgeon - I think he should know ;)  Also it worked and did not sting!
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 15.07.06 09:28 UTC
aybe but look at any shampoo, even baby shampoo, and it tells you to use water to get it out of your eyes.  I wouldn't want to do it myself.    I hate water going in my eyes so I couldn't intentionally do that :d :d
