Here we go again.
Peg dog,has some very small scabs on the tips of her ears,I use stronghold, she is due to have another dose in about 3 days, but must of had these little scabs for about 4 days? in the past I have seen vet over this, and they said it was probably' dinner'
I wasn't sure at the time but they did go,she also shakes her head a lot, always has,and been to vet for swollen ear flaps before,no treatment as at the time she was taking thyroxine and they thought it was that.At that time they were painful for her.
I can touch her ears no problem and I have cleaned them with warm water and used a chlorhex solution,so small improvment, but have only done this for 2 days, inside ears are clean as a whistle so no infection, she is on steroids as I have posted previously, could it be side effect?I dont want tot rush to vet as they didn't do much last time.
Any thoughts? or a better idea than chlorhex?

With what you have said before has your vet tested for hypothyroid a lot of your dogs symptoms go well with this. Not all vets from what I've read before test properly but someone on here will be able to advise on the correct way.

Yes,she was tested, but results were inconclusive, they said her thyroid was slightly under active, but apparently not unusual for salukis, and also she was that ill,her thytoid level may have dropped anyway ,vet said to try her on thyroxine,so we did,a very low dose, which really upset her,i took her off the drug after only a week as,poor girl, would try to lay down, then jump up,every few minutes, then pace all night, plus she was in extreme pain, she very nearly gave up.
Pinned it down to auto immune, even though again blood test was borderline, all liver kidney function ok,two sets of xrays show no bony changes atall, orthopedic vet consult as well,so this is our best guess.Spoken to a few saluki owners who have had auto immune probs as well.
Its been real tough having a dog so ill that no one can give a name to her illness,so with the ears, its just another thing I dont want her to suffer with, she suffered enough,so every little thing now,I am a bit paranoid about doing the right thing. This has been going on since last August,so nearly a year now.
Have to say though at the moment, she s on top form with steriods, even runs up the stairs, and down to one tablet a day.

Hi Ashlee, it may also be a result of being on Steroids too...as you probably know steroids can intefer with Liver, Kidney function etc, also can thin the skin and affect the hair. Could you wean her off them at all? I would also add a Zinc tablet to her meal, we struggle to ingest enough Zinc, one of the essential minerals it is hard to get enough of. Zinc helps skin and coat conditions immensley, so maybe worth a try...so sorry you are having problems with your girl, very frustrating I imagine and am sending a little prayer your way, all the best, Dawn

Be careful when adding zinc. You need to ascertain what amount of zinc is already in her diet.  Like a lot of minerals and vitamins, too much can be just as bad as too little..........

What can excess Zinc do then??

Have you thought about sunburn.  Ears are very easily sunburnt during this hot weather.  Try some sunscreen on them and see if that helps or rub a small amount of Thornit ear powder onto the offending scabs.
