But as for breed problems yes they have their problems just like any other breed had theirs.
If no other breed had problems there would be no need for hip scores or heart dopplering or eye tests etc.
I love my bullies and to put the record straight they are one of the oldest breeds in the history of breeds , they are even mentioned in the doomsday book , yes i agree they have changed and been changed by breeders over the years , but there again so have all breeds been changed by breeders hence most breeds have probelms.
Lots of breeders try to make this better by having health tests done , myself included.
If bulldogs are so awful can some one please tell me why they have lasted this long!!

so most have to have a c section, and ??? i have had 3 children  all born by c section so do you think i shouldnt have got pregnant then ? if we all looked the same it would be a very dull world ,all breeds of dogs are different but i would never say to someone your breed is discusting,i wouldnt like to own a gun dog or a very hairy dog ,but i wouldnt insult one either sometimes its just best to keep your opinions to yourself.

Surely that's a bit different -you're human and can be TOLD things so you know what to expect and make your own choice.

But were you forced to mate,and did you know you were going to get cut open before you got pregnant? I cant see the comparison between and innocent dog,and a human who know's exactly what they are doing ;)

I think bulldogs are cute,but i dont think i could live with a dog that struggled for nearly every breath,what a heartbreaking thing to have to see :( They just look un natural and uncomfortable and totally man made

What is the approximate annual registration figure for Bulldogs?  How many litters does the top kennel or even kennels usually produce each year?

According to the KC's website number 18 out of the top 20 breeds 2005. Doesn't give a figure. Interestingly (but perhaps not surprisingly) the Staffie is now above both the Golden and the Cavalier at no 5.

I remember being shocked at how many were bred as \I had assumed the high price was linked to low supply.

Obviously the great British public like the breed so much that they are willing to pay so much for them even when there seem to be plenty bred still demand seems to outstrip supply.

As for struggling for every breath, except for hot weather, the Bulldogs I have met seem to breath and function the same as most any dog. 

As for being able to breed naturally I do believe this issue needs to be addressed by breeders and self whelping and mating characteristics actively selected for, as the gene pool seems to be plenty wide enough with the numbers being bred.

how dare you insult bulldogs.  i have one who is 2 years old has never been to the vets with breathing or heart problems.  what type of dog do you own, maybe we could insult that!  of course different people like different dogs, but to be so blunt and so rude is disguisting.  my bulldog is so fit, he runs with my staffords and has no problems.  the vet has said he is in great condition and has no problems what so ever.  if you know so much about bulldogs please tell me their health problems so i can look out for these!!!!!!!!  i paid £1750 for my bulldog, and no i am not interested in breeding and yes i would of paid more for him.  how can you comment on a breed of dog you don't even own!  you don't know there quirks like they have a liking for feet and will try and suck peoples toes if your not wearing socks, or the way my boy will give anyone a kiss on the cheek when asked!  what is the name of the kennel you work at, so that i can  tell everyone i know with a bulldog to keep well clear of.  poor dogs, any more dogs you want to take a disliking for and slag off???????
