We are just waiting for confirmation that our holiday is booked :D
We are going here
http://www.theoldehouse.co.uk/index.htmWe went there last September for a few days and it was lovely

Very children and dog orientated

It is a stones throw from Padstow which is a favourite place of ours

Can't wait :D
So where is everybody else going or have gone this year :)

We've already been to stay at my sisters villa in Florida, and had a weekend at the Elvedon Center Parcs; but in October we're off to Butlins at Skegness for the special toddler week they're running.
Haven't been to Butlins since I was about 5 years old - hoping the old 'chalets' (read sheds) aren't still there :-) We're going with a couple of friends and their toddler, so it should be a laugh. This holiday is all about our daughter and her friend - so as long as they have the time of their lives we'll consider it a success......

You may well be right there Lucy..........will let you know how it goes with the Libs Clan

If it was my mum and my two sisters I think I would need a canular (sp) inserted with a steady flow of something that was a good 40% proof

We've never had a family holiday so when my OH got given some money (3 figures) from work for an injury he sustained, we decided to use it to pay for all 6 of us to go to Disneyland Paris :p. We go in the middle of September (I couldn't get any time off when the children are on summer holidays ).
We did also look at a weekend break at somewhere like Butlins/Haven or hire a caravan or B&B but the costs are too high (unless anyone knows of a really cheap place along the south???) Our problem is being a family of 6, we can't find anywhere large enough for us all to share a room without renting 2 separate ones:rolleyes:.

As you know ;) - just got back from France. Stayed in a hotel for a few days in the Loire - visited chateau, tasted wine, bought wine, drank wine, ate lovely food. Then drove down to the Dordogne where we rented a gite from (didn't know until we got there) one of the bosses where I worked thirty years ago :D :D Did much the same there too :D Then drove back to a different area of the Loire, spent a few more days and did much the same :D :D Only put on 2lb in weight

Did do some swimming and lots of walking though :)
Now back at work, ploughing my way through two weeks worth of in-tray :( :(

We are missing our annual jaunt to Australia with us moving house this year :( However, we will be back out there for a couple of months next spring :) so something to look forward to!

Wow that looks lovely! How many dogs would they take do you know - nothing booked this year at all - haven't been for a couple of years and really would love a mini break!

Wow - looks an idyllic spot Lucy - hope you have a fab time :)
We've got the usual cluster of long weekends down south for dog shows and are intending to hire a static caravan for a few weekends and if possible odd week this summer & autumn to test the water if it's something we'd like to buy for ourselves.
Other than that I'm off to Kentucky for 10 (fur filled) days in October - so daughter and Dear Heart sharing the dog sitting

Think they're gonna miss me :D :D :D

Teri
I have had statics for over 13yrs now, they are brill, a holiday every weekend and the dogs come as well. Just be carefull what sites you go to. Another tip I will give you, and anyone else thinking of getting a static especially on the "big sites" do not fall for the "guaranteed lets scheme a lot of sites offer" they let anyone into your caravan and its been known for caravans to get wrecked. What we call the riff-raff. If thinking of hiring out to get your site fees, do it yourself, you are then in contact with your guests before they arrive.

I'm not really a 'holiday' person (more circumstance than desire) but in three weeks time my youngest and I are going to Poland for 7 days and the Czech Republic for 2 days to see a friend of a friend who I haven't seen for 6 years! I am soooooooooooooo excited but absolutely terrified too!

Hi Marguerite - thanks for that :)
That's what we want one for - somewhere within easy driving distance of home so that we'll be able to go every weekend and John could even commute to work from if I wanted to stay more often with the dogs. We feel we should be making more of our spare time than spending every Saturday and Sunday shopping and going out for lunch - nice, but not very relaxing and too predictable.
The site fees on some we've visited are pretty horrendous but then again these seem to be the ones that are in the best locations for what we want, i.e. a coastal site with internal access to a beach so no bringing wet/sandy dogs back home in the car :D We don't fancy letting it out much for the reasons you've given - maybe just family and close friends using it when we're off elsewhere.
Thanks for the info - it's encouraging to know that we're not barking mad LOL! Or at least if we are we're not alone :D
Cheers, Teri x

Hi Teri, I used to have a static at Auchenlarie caravan park, just past gatehouse of fleet, near dumfries. I spent months looking around and decided on them for their very dog friendly policies and the fact that you can have a 4 ft high fenced garden round your caravan. The best part though about Auchenlarie is their wonderful private beach. It's a little cove only accessible down a set of steep steps and very dog safe - even for my beastly boy. I could let them all off the lead and just watch the steps for anyone else appearing. Unfortunately finances dictated I sell up but I'm determined to go back there again. I would highly recommend it :)

That sounds good, Chaumsong, what did you think of the tent field?

Tents Isabel??? Tents!! Haven't you heard of caravans :D
Not sure about the camping bit at Auchenlarie, certainly the facilities are good, but the camping field is right in the middle of the park so you would have people walking past all day. The only time I've been camping we camped at a park near Fort william and were able to choose a very quiet corner.... it didn't make it any more fun though... midgies... spiders...wet tents....it's not for me!

Hi chaumsong,
we headed for the Solway coast yesterday and stopped into Southerness :) We'd spent a weekend there many moons ago with friends and remembered what a beautiful beach area it is and lovely surrounding countryside. We weren't disappointed.
John had looked up directions for the park at Auchenlarie but it was 30 miles further travel and unfortunately as it took us over 2 hours in fairly quiet traffic to get to Southerness we decided it was just too far away for us to use regularly. It seems the search remains to find the ideal spots slightly closer to home so that we get value for the expenditure (which is quite scary

when it eventually sinks in :D )
Thanks for the input though - every little helps re getting to know others' experiences and the pleasures (and annoyances etc) of regular weekend jaunts with the dogs.
cheers, Teri :)

We went to Durban in South Africa after easter, we are going to Ireland for a week in August to stay with my parents and myself and new boyfriend are hopefully going camping for a weekend before sept.
