Can I ask any members who go to this club how they get on and if they allow you to bring a new dog onto a course part way thru?  I am interested in how the club is run and what sort of commands are used as I've just had a puppy back who attended this club and passed her beginner course but no commands or idea of how she was trained so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks schip

Is this Mary Ray's class?

Yes the bitches previous owner said she had passed the clubs basic course but there seems little evidence of much training and a terrible fear problem with the bitch - until the owner left, not seen it since just threw her in with all the others and the only bitch who had a go was her mother but she's got pups so I expect her to put the older pup in her place.

I used to do obedience with my GSD's so thought I'll run through some basic exercises with her to see how far she'd got, all I could get out of her was a sit stay not even walking to heal on the lead or off it for that matter, so you can see my confusion perhaps its because I've not done any for years or a different command system and training.  I can't rehome this little girl until I know what her problem is as I'd hate to place her and she turn into some sort of monster dog away from us.

I've never heard bad reports at Rugby to be honest. They have a good reputation.
Sounds more like the dog had a problem with the owner from what you said. At least she's back where she can get the best.

Not got a problem with the club like you say owner appears to be the problem but have managed to find a phone number for the club sec and rang her, got husband lovely chap very helpful and they are looking into it for me to see what the issue was.  If it was as bad as the owner has claimed they'd have suspended her for a wk whilst they decided at committee level he said what was the best way forward with the dog and as she claims to have passed the course with the pup that would not appear the be the case.

Shes doing wonderfully well here, playing with all the other dogs and the cat even the pups who are only 4 wks old no problems, even when they've got rawhide chews on the yard no problem and lets be honest if they were going to squabble with her it would be over food.  Tomorrow we're off down town again to see if she's any different around other dogs and people as the previous owner claimed she has a problem with asian men due to one kicking her when she was very young in the park so got an asian male friend willing to give her a go to see what sort of reaction we get.  She claims to have been advised to get the pup pts because she was such a problem with everyone - erm not a chance when she is only 13mths old and was just a tad gobby at our ringcraft for all of 2 - 3 mins just like all the other dogs there lol.

Am really starting to head towards never breeding again I've just had it with people its the part I had buyers are a nightmare at times, what I can't understand is how a litter sister with Jenny Butters is strutting her stuff on the obedience website, click on out and about for jenny and eski looking so fantastic and working so well to heal a bitch I'm sure we're going to see in the obedience rings next year once old enough, yet this one is an alleged nightmare.

Isn't she just Jenny came and spent ages playing with the pups until she decided on which one she wanted and its sooo great to see her working so well this early on.  Have to admit it cheers me up just going to see the piccie and know Jenny adores her mind so do all the other 9 owners of my two litters last summer, phone calls on their birthdays photos of them with other family pets, kids etc so really I shouldn't be so upset about this little girl but as a breeder you want them all to have a good experience if  you don't then you've failed not the dogs.

Thansk for cheering me up michelled just what I needed to give me a boost lol.

I haven't been as when I wanted to sign up the course had already started so I had to wait two months until the next one. Don't think you can start halfway through the course.
Training was flexible whether you wanted to use titbits, clicker etc.
The only thing is the room is quite small.
If you live in the rugby area there is a really good training club held at Ryton on a Tuesday night. There are classes for puppies then classes for all levels.  You can join any time you want. All the trainers are friendly and helpful.
Contact Universalady on here and she can give you the details.

I can ditto that - I go to the training on a Weds night that is the beginners course, puppy classes on a tues run up until about 14 weeks I think so you may be better of joining the beginners course but the training is very good and again very flexible.  I don't use tit bits with mine or clicker, just my voice and this is more than acceptable there.  Everyone is very friendly and helpful....definitely worth having a chat with the ladies :D

I looked in to the Mary Ray class and found the same thing as Megan57collies, long waiting list and small hall, so waiting until another suitable class came up, which is now Ryton :D
