Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Still weeing!

Hi,

we have a 10 month old pup who is STILL weeing in his bed every night. All our dogs sleep in their own pens at night, and we have never had a problem with any of the others, including his brother who has been clean for months! He never asks to go out, and never seems a bit bothered about messing his bed. Obviously I can't tell him off, as he's done it before I go down in the morning. Any ideas how I can get him to stop?

I would go and get him checked out at the vets to see if there are any underlying causes.

must admit, that was my first thought too, in the order of ruling things out..urinary problem/ infection?

Thanks, I probably will take him in, though he seems to be weeing normally all day, no pain, or strange colour etc.  He is also monorchid, could this have anything to do with it? Never had that problem with any of the others, and his brother has the full set! We will get him castrated when he is older.

I have seen a breed survey for illnesses recently (think it was collies) that listed 2 unilateral cyrptorchidic dogs as having specific urinary problems...so may be possible? I would say rare! you'd be verrry unlucky.

Are you sure you mean Monorchidism? as this is used as a bit of a misnomer a lot. (monorchid would be absence of testicle, which only surgery would reveal?) unilateral cryptorchididsms would be one retained testicle and bilateral cryptochidism (both retained) in either abdomen/flank/body cavity.

Bare in mind too..... (and appologies if all this you know!)
that Sibes are able to retract their testicles back into the body cavity (due to their cold temperature ancestory!) and have hoodwinked many a vet with this.

And, Im speaking from bitter experience of  unilateral cryptorchidism, castration can ruin the coat :( would you think perhaps of just having the retained testicle removed without castration. I'd say if you can avoid castration do!!

please ignore me if Ive just taught granny to suck eggs ;)
Good Luck hope a vet check throws more light on this for you...fingers crossed for you!!

Hi HG,

I THINK he is monorchid, as we have never been able to feel anything inside at all, whereas with all our other dogs we have been able to feel the testicles inside before they drop. But you never know there may be something in there. Would an x-ray reveal this? Or would he have to be opened up?  Never thought about keeping his one testicle. I'd rather do that as I don't like castration. All of our dogs are entire, live as a pack and we never have any problems. Anyway I know Sibes that have dropped at over 18 months, so I'm in no hurry to do anything yet.

And he was clean last night! First time for ages. I think it's because I've named and shamed him on a public board:-)

Depending on your Vet surgery Ultrasound/X-ray could be options, most however, opt for exploratory surgery..as to be honest Monorchidism is extremely rare!! It is much more likely to be bilateral cryptorchidism.

Mono= one ... As in there is only one(anywhere in the dog).
Crypt= hidden.. (which is more common.)

Mon/orchid/ism= one/testicle/condition of
Crypt/orchid/ism = hidden/testicle/condition of

If that makes more sense!! :D

Your absolutely right!! I think we that know Huskies are well aware of how Mobile the  Sibe testicles are and how Sibes are well versed in using their cremaster muscle! and very late (comparitavely) descent can still occur.

In a pack of entire dogs avoiding castration would be even more prudent if your able, it may well cause problems for him...bless him!!!

>I think it's because I've named and shamed him on a public board<

ROFL!!! :D
awww!! fingers crossed again then for tonight.
