Topic Dog Boards / General / Does Your Dog Sunbathe?

Very interested to read the thread about how to keep dogs cool.  Only just come in from the garden after discussing our daft dog who actually sunbathes.  We have a south facing garden and OH and I were sitting under the parasol which is on a brick patio and the dog was a couple of yards away sprawled out in the baking sunshine.  Every now and then she finds the shade for a while but will throughout the day choose to lay in the sun.

Does anyone else have a daft dog like mine?

Yes!! people often laugh at him cos he is black too so gets very hot to the touch  but he comes from Italian lines, so often wondered if thats where his fascination from the sun comes from
he never seems to feel poorly from it and does seem to drink more (but then I do too if i have been in the heat!) apart from this he seems very happy to lounge out there for days on end :-D

Holly can find the smallest patch of sunlight coming in from a window and that's where she chooses to lie. She follows the sun around the house - in the morning she can be found in the rooms at the front of the house and in the afternoon/evening she comes into the rooms facing the back :D
But right now she is being sensible and lying in a patch of shade in the garden!

Earl will find the sunniest spot and bask in it for ages - until he's hot to the touch.  He prefers lying on the comfort of my daughters trampoline and will often sit staring at it if it's not in the sunniest spot, waiting for someone to come and move it for him....

Once he's reached melt down, he flakes out on the cool tiles in the lobby for half an hour, and then goes back outside.

I don't know how he can bear being out there today - far too hot.  I've put my daughters paddling pool out there for him today, so it's bake, then sleep in the pool, then bake again.  I suppose being an 'African' dog he's naturally a lover of this hot weather.

My JRT does, he is a real sunworshipper, so after a short time I have to get him in and shut all the doors otherwise he would be out there till he was cooked.

It'd really funny.  Lastar my dog from Spain ensures that he stays out of the sun, he goes in search for the shade, my others just stand and lie there not bothering at all.

yep all four sunbathe, im always trying to get them in the shade evendown to putting their beds in the garden under a gazebo. A couple of months ago i was wondering why there were yellow hairs all over the worksurfaces, i found out recently the sun is at the back of the house in the morning and as soon as i leave for work in the morning tess was getting on to the benches to lay in the sun that was coming in through the window on to the bench

Nope but my chickens do - it's the funniest sight - they all kind of spread themselves out with their wings outstretched and a look of utter bliss on their beaks !.

Only 1 of mine does, Toffee my mongrel, just loves laying out in it & in the winter have a hard job getting her to come in out of it

Two of my Gordon boys love to sprawl out on the girls trampoline with full sun shining down on them - much to my daughters annoyance!!   But only for a while when they realise it is a bit too hot!  then they move to the shade where I have put there beds under the bushes!

Paddling pool just gets slurped from - shy away from splashing around in it!  But love the sea or rivers!?

My old girl is clever enough to lie in the shade on the cool tiles in the hall - as does my English Setter boy! The youngest boy just flops wherever - usually in the kitchen on the wooden floor (which is quite cool).

I love this weather but even I am finding it exhausting with the heat!

Still no Broadband at home - missing you all!!  BT have had a right earful from me and OH every night last week and still unresolved as to why it's not working at the new house!

My Golden sunbathes sometimes. Our dogs used to sunbathe in Southern California too, even in the middle of summer.

Oh, I have sunbathing fish too. You'd think some heron would come make a meal of them but they just love sunning themselves on the ledge. My ghost koi actually gets his back right out of the water.

Guess there are a lot of sun worshippers in this house.

My CKCS loves to bathe in the sun, he is just a 3mth old pup but loves the sun.
