My 8 month old female golden has been diagnosed with mange mites, around her mouth. Had  scrapings etc, so we know the little blighters are there...been prescribed Aludex. once weekly wash, anyone had experience of this and if so how did you do?...

Which type of Mange as it does make a difference.  One (Sarcoptic) they pick up, the other (Demodex) all dogs are born with, but only cause problems when the dogs immune system is poor or under stress.

Its the Demodex type...have been trying to boost her immune system she is on a good quality food, and also has fish, vegs, etc added to her diet, any other ideas to boos her immune system much appreciated.....

There were 12 in her litter does this make a difference....?

Has she recently undergone stress, such as a first season, an illness etc?

It is not uncommon to have a localised for of demodex in young animals that once resolved and the animals immune system continues to mature, does not cause a problem again.

On the other hand some cases get worse where there is a seriously defective immune system or disease.

If it is the localised form and she responds to the treatment, fingers crossed it will not occur again.

She was recently spayed, but other than that she is a typical 8 month old, pup, happy, and eating well, as for stress....no.....dosent know the meaning of the word...

Spaying is major abdominal surgery so certainly would consider this stress, as is puberty.

Try giving her a Zinc tablet every day...fantastic for skin and coat problems...you can get them at a cheap sorta savers type shop and they are not expensive...Zinc is something that it's difficult to ingest enough of, hope that helps, all the best, Dawn
