My bitch is due to give birth any time. How much does the temp drop prior to giving birth? ATM she is 37.3c. She has been 37.7, then 37.5, 37.4 now 37.3 is this a sign? (over 3 days)

I've had temperatures drop down to 36.3 the day before.  As I understand it, anything below 37. is a sure sign that things will start in the next 24 hours.

I'd say you have at least tonight to get some sleep :D

Good luck :)

Well today her temp has been 36.5 but now it's back to 37.4. Shes been panting all day, doing some digging, has blood shot eyes and shes not eaten since a very small mouthful yesterday morning.

All sounds very normal & I would expect to see the first puppy within 24 hrs of the drop ~ if in doubt at anytime now then you must call your Vet.

Good luck

Oh i don't think theres anything wrong, i was just confused about temp as shes showing all the signs all day but temp hadn't dropped. I have just taken it again and shes now 36.8, so puppies should be soon then!

The temperature will rise back up again.  The window that it's down can vary.  Mine have normally held their temps down for a good few hours ~ I normally only check twice a day.  However last time, temp was normal in the morning, wasn't due to take it again until 7pm but something at 5pm made me check & it was down to 36.8 ~ checked it again at 7pm & it was back upto 37.1 so I could well have missed it.

From what you've described you're in for a long night!!
- By zoiangel [gb] Date 29.06.06 18:14 UTC
Well i will take it again later, but she is very restless and hasn't stopped panting at all and she has just had 1 very long wee and it's very pale. Her belly just looks like it's going to pop!

I personally would stop taking her temp now, let her get on with her labour.  By the sounds of things the puppies are imminent.

Well, i had a very long night, she had her first pup at 11.20pm and her last at 7.45am.:cool: All doing well and there were no probs at all. Thanks for all the advice.

Congratulations on your new arrivals, you are going to be busy and keeping 3 means it will continue long after the others have gone to their new homes.
