What else can I do for Misty?  She is almost 5 months old.  We got up this morning to the hall floor alsolutely covered in extremely runny poo (and up the walls, on her feeding mat and toys etc - she didn't whine or bark to wake us up .  Since then she has been toileting almost every hour and it has become very watery.  She has now just been sick twice outside.  I have done as previous threads suggested by not feeding her today and just trying to get her to drink as much water as possible which she is doing and plan on re-introducing food tomorrow (rice to start with).

How long should I leave it before I take her to the vets and is there anything else I can do in the meantime for her.  She is a little quiet compared to her usual self and isn't even acting hungry or anything - just very sorrowful :( .  At the moment she is sleeping but is very restless.  I just hate to see her like this but don't know if there is anything else I can do :(.

If she's no better in the morning then I'd take her to the vet - don't bother offering food in case there's a benefit to her tummy being empty for any exam / tests.

24 hours starvation is pretty standard and if it's just a regular upset tum that is a sufficient period to let her inside calm down again and so gradually introduce small portions of bland food.

The fact that she is also now being sick sounds as though she may have picked up an infection or similar and possibly require meds.

Ensure she is still trying to drink and if you have any glucose at home put a little in her water.  Severe sickness and runny bowels can cause rapid dehydration, particularly in the case of youngsters and warm weather.

HTH, please update when you can.
Good luck, Teri :)

Poor baby :(

Is it possible she's eaten something ?
You could try giving her something like dioralite to keep her hydrated.   If you pinch a bit of skin at the neck does it snap back or stay pinched?  this is a good indication of hydration ;)

If she's now vomiting as well as having diarrhoea keep an eye on her, she's more likely to get dehydrated if she's doing both ;)

But if you're at all worried a trip to the vets may be the best course.

Hope she's better soon

I would take her to the vet if she's not better by today. For the future you could consider ordering this http://www.hyperdrug.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PROTEXPK I always keep a tube in the fridge, great stuff :)

Well, when we went to bed we covered the floor with those puppy pads you can get (had a load given to us but never used!!).  She was sick a couple of times in the night on one of the pads but that was all.  We immediately let her out and she still did a runny poo but she seems more like her old self - as we speak she is digging the garden and eating grass!!!  She is drinking loads as I am having to fill her water bowl up every hour or so.

We have been inspecting her mess (delightful ) to see if there is anything strange in it and have found a few bits of chewed crayon?  Could this have caused the illness?  I know she is also partial to cat poo:eek: and we have loads of cats straying around here (including our own cat who is so lazy and couldn't care less if another cat walked past him!! :D)  He is jabbed uptodate but obviously I dont know about the others.

>found a few bits of chewed crayon?

I doubt it was that.  I found bits of bright red crayon in my baby's nappy once (crawling age).  I nearly had heart failure at first glance until I realised what it was.  She was fine though.

Trouble with puppies is that they can pick up stuff from outside so easily.  Have you got any plants that could have been chewed?  Some plants are toxic.

No plants to speak of as she chewed them within a few days of bringing her home LOL.

Shes had a little bit of rice about an hour ago and so far it hasn't returned!!!!  She is definitely getting more lively as the day goes on and is trying to find more food which for her is normal!! :D :D  Hopefully the rice will help and OH is on strict instructions not to feed her anything else today apart from the rice and a little bit of chicken I have just cooked up.

Hi,
poor little mit, VETS!! the pup will deteriate very quickly. NO messing.
Make sure her water is watched if it is outside, as birds and rats will come to drink in it,
especially in this weather.
They love all water and water features, to drink and bath in. just beware a!
