Jilly, it would have been better if you had made yourself know around the show ring, but failing that I would contact a breed club sec. and ask for a list of breeders. When you have that, phone and ask if you can visit several of the breeders listed, tell them you are wanting a puppy, with a view to showing, get a view of what is available and what you like, go back to the breeders of the stock you prefer and ask to be but on their lists. Hi, I agree with everything Jackie has said - just want to add a couple of things - if you want a show puppy you do have to go to a breeder who shows and wins, dont get taken in by the breeders advertisng litters as show/pet pups, and when you talk to them , they have never been to a dog show, just know the pups have show potential because they have champions about 3 or 4 generations back in the pedigree! Lots and lots of Cavaliers are bred each year, only a very small proportion of them are close enough to the breed standard to make it to the show ring. and dont forget to check up on the hereditary problems in Cavs - especially heart trouble - make sure parents are tested.

It would be a good idea if you found out where the next championship show is being held near your area, and I would go and speak to breeders and watch the dogs being shown, you can acces show sites from either www.fossedata.co.uk or www.highampress.co.uk the next championship show I know of is the Scottish Kennel Club at Ingliston , Edinburgh thats if you are in Scotland, it is being held on the 24th/25th August, 25th will be toy day. If you let us know whereabouts you are in the country others can tell you where the nearest show is being held.

Welsh Kennel Club at Builth this weekend with Toy breeds on Friday 16th! It is the Royal Welsh showground Builth Wells!
