Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Showing Lead - name of lady who makes them r'qd

Sorry to post again about showing leads.  Does anyone know the name and number of the lady that makes the showing leads who has retrievers?  They are made out of very soft leather and have a twizzley mechanism so you don't get the lead twisted.  You can get different shades of leathers - from a retirever colour to black or brown etc.

I don't know which lady you are talking about, but Dave Burdon, Guymar Leads used to have Retrievers and he makes the soft leather leads in different colours with a twizzly bit in the middle. His tel no. is 01706 841349.  Hope this is of help. ( I use his leads so I can recommend them).

I know of a man that makes show leads if you can find her details. He makes what you are looking for and is very quick and not to expencive. I will pm you with his details ;)

Hey,

Just had a look at the essenjay link as I'm also looking for a new show lead (the one I have is too long, plus it's so delicately stitched etc, when my pup starts bounding around and pulling I'm always worried it'll break )! I like the look of the slip leads but when I've looked at similar ones on the trade stands at shows, the leather is always very stiff and so wouldn't hang nicely around the dog when stacked if you know what I mean. Any ideas how I could get the leather to become more supple?

Ta,

Vinnie

Hello Vinnie

Have you tried using saddle soap or something similar - mind it is not too greasy tho as your hands will slip.  I use a leather cream that I bought at Crufts - you know the stand where you could not walk past it without them trying to clean your shoes - very persistant too!!

Thanks Lynne, I've got some saddle soap, will give that a whirl!

I think the lady you mean might be Chris Murray (Gayplume Flat Coats) - we ordered some leads from her a few years ago and very good they were too. I can't find her number but maybe you could find it in a Crufts catalogue or something.

Hello Jane - yes it is Chris and I am meeting up with her at Blackpool - many thanks for replying.
