Hi,
i currently feed my dog a selection of the naturediet foods.
i understand that naturediet are having problems with supplying food and was wondering if anyone could suggest a similar type of food to naturediet, of a comparable quality.
Many thanks,
Barry

natures menu

I can reccomend Natures menu too...have used it in the past, and rate it highly. :)
Have a look here!

forthglade do a food very similar to naturediet, cheaper too

Natures diet is back in full stock in our local PAH. Infact we always seem to have overstock of it nowdays!!!!

And it has been for afew weeks! :)

My local PAH is fully stocked again on Naturediet, the supply problem seems to be over.

S*ds law that Naturediet have started to get back on their feet again, with regards to supplying stockists, my local PAH has just had a massive fire

dont know when they will be back up and running

I was wondering earlier if anyone on here was a customer of that store! It's going to be a while I think before the stores back up and running. :(

I don't know about being back on their feet, I'm still having trouble ordering direct. The order I placed last week was cancelled because they were having problems with sealing the products and said not to call until the end of this week, even then it is likely to be limited supplies. As much as I like ND products it gets a bit tiresome having to phone every day to order 3 cases at a time (I usually order 20-25 having 5 dogs). I have started ordering Naturesmenu, more expensive but at least it is available. This ND situation seems never ending!

Oh dear does sound like ND is cursed :(

Probably still having problems trying to get the new "easy open" top to work!

LOL stacy. I know how you feel!
But then in PAH we had acouple of batches that hadn't been vacuumed easy open didn't even need to be human touched....Burst packets don't smell too good though.....

Im ok at the mo...when ND first started having trouble i went over to tripe for my lot, they love it...ill only get ND now just to keep for emergencies i think.
I was missing PAH as i get most other doggie bits from there, but have just found a boarding kennels/breeders not far from the Pitsea PAH that have a big shop on site, really good it is to...love finding an excuse to go down there so i can have a butchers at some of their dogs :-)

I was getting fed up with the inconsistant stock of ND at my local pet store so I decided to try Natures Menu and have never looked back. It's easier to open and smells a damn sight better than ND...........it used to make me gag!!! Oh and of course the main plus side is that Harvey really likes it

Hayley

Hayley,
Naturesmenu advertise their treats as 95% meat, but when you read the label on the package it's mostly meat derivatives. They also use "EC permitted" preservatives and colourings. I was wondering if it's the same as their meal pouches.

Forthglade.
I use Forthglade if I cannot feed a raw diet for whatever reason. However, it should be fed with biscuit and I have mixed feelings about giving my dogs cereals. I do give them biscuit with it as that is how it is designed to be fed.

Only because many people believe you must feed biscuit with meat. there is nothing to say you can't use it the same way as you would use meat in any other feeding method be it BARF (yes I know it is cooked :D ) or with Biscuit as a filler and to add missing vitamins.
Hi Barbara
I was wondering about that and thought of adding vegetables to it instead, and they do usually get chicken wings for breakfast still. (Can't fit any mince in the freezer for the next few days as it's too full of wings, turkey necks and bones!)

I dont feed it with biscuit, I just use it as a BARF meat.

I'm still having problems getting ND. Its nowhere in the shops, even pets at home which usually manage to get it. If I ring ND on the right day I might be lucky getting one of the flavours but I can forget ordering in bulk. I rang them yesterday lunch time and they had already sold out of what they were offering yesterday. I'm really fed up with them.

Unfortunatley I havent found a suitable alternative. I have tried Nature Menu but the packs have less in, and are therefore more costly, the food is smelly, and my dogs stools get really runney on it. I have just purchased a load of chicken breast and will mix it with some rice and carrots and freeze it in containers, more work and time but dont know what else to do. What is the story behind all this - I heard that ND boiler blew up, ND say they have moved to new premises but that doesnt account for the poor supply? Perhaps I would be more sympathetic if there was a problem beyond their control - but they havent been very supportive when I have rung up.
PS Looked on the forthglade website - no information being redesigned. Is it dry food or what?

Have you tried Forthglade? It gets the thumbs up from my lot when I give it to them from time to time. Easier packaging too.

Just looked up their web site but unfortunately being redesigned. What is it - dry, wet?

Wet, It predates the nature diet by many years and is meat and Vegetables, (sometimes with rice) cooked within the wrapper).
It is presented in a plastic boil in the bag type thin then inside a cardboard carton and made in Devon.
They market it as complimentary (the all meat and veg ones).

The Forthglade product I buy is packs of frozen raw mince - they do tripe, beef-and-tripe, lamb, beef and chicken - they used to do fish as well but my local feed store hasn't stocked that for ages.
It's just good old plain raw meat - not cooked, and no veg added.

Yes I know they do Frozen, but they do the cooked in the pack product which I am most familiar with.

I've never come across that version. I wonder if it's only available in certain parts of the country?

It has been on Pet shop shelves around ehre for Donkeys years,a dn I remember them having a stall at some of the shows before I had the Elkhounds.

That sounds promising - are the bags portioned in sizes or do you take out what you want from a big bag and reseal the rest?
June

No it is vaccuum packs, probably 400g I think.
I'd just recently happly switched to Naturediet, overcome the stock problems by visiting different stores and was all settled for a happy life of Naturediet custom - and then had to throw about 10 packs away the other week for being off, and another dog food is struck off the list.
I think its going to be chicken, mince, fish, vegetables and an occasional tin of dog food thrown in from now on.
I got a box of naturediet last week, and the lady in the shop said they were still having a bit problem and also they'd had some boxes that were 'off'.
I think I will give up on it. A box only lasts me a week. I've opened two packs from a box recently that have been off.
Having the same problem with ND. And when I want to order it directly they tell me it costs £11 postage, although it used to be for free. They said it was a mistake and I should have never got it for free (live in the Highlands, but not that remote!).
I tried Nature menu this week, but it is more expensive.
Off to look at forthglade website now.

The forthglade website is out of action at the moment, but I emailed them and they emailed me back information documents straight away. It sounds very similar to nature diet but I have emailed them back for prices. So watch this space.
Dudley I'm so glad to hear you say you've had 'off' packs too, because I thought I was going mad! I was thinking surely it wouldn't go off, it must be me. I was continously holding packs up to hubby's nose saying "do you think that smells right?". Of course, once you 'go looking' for a funny smell, you can't really tell if its a funny smell or not, know what I mean? But there was no confusion with the chicken and tripe ones, they were definately rancid!

we have had the same problem with supplies of ND and with packs being off and getting thrown away. when i visited our local pet shop today there was a food called Diamond Natural Diet. the guy in the shop told us it has been brought out by a competitor after all the probs with ND, and thats its the same as ND. we gave it to our girl tonight and she loved it! its exactly the same price as ND so will see how we go!!

I have heard so much recently in posts about the quality of ND. Have you all complained as I am sure they guys at ND would rather hear directly than complaints via a forum. They can only put things right if they know about it ;)
The reason why I say this is that they have gone through a very bad time with the accident and I had 100% customer service from them when I bought ND Lite when Min was alive and it was the thing that kept her alive for the last two years of her life so I owe them so much ;)

ps I am going to send a link to Ameile as I am sure she would like to have her say :)

i emailed them about the problem and they sent me a letter apologising but thats it. i have found more 'off food' on the shelves of shops with the same batch number they told me to dispose of so im not sure if its the pet shops or nd themselves with the problem! nd didnt seem too concerned when i complained though to be honest. in the past i have had excellent customer service from them, but not so good now!!

We will see what they say as they have a link now so I am sure we will see how their customer service is once they see this ;)

I got given two packs the other day and one was off, as the seal was broken the plastic foil was not stuck down all the way around.
I think a rethink on the packaging might be the way to go.
I had two packs of forthglade and they didn't seem to have a problem.
What seems to be happening is in the heat the ND packs are swelling and going at the seems.

Do the packets say anything about storage and temperature levels ?

I always keep a few in for emergencies/days out - I checked them this morning after reading all this, but mine are fine (in cupboard in kitchen) :)
Daisy

Naturediet are having problems supplying PAH now. Had some stuff in last week saying how we will have problems getting hold of it :( Such a shame as most customers still on it have found it's the only thing that suits their dog :(
I didn't complain as I thought it was just me, bad luck picking up dodgy packets and possibly the heat, although I stored them in a dark cupboard in a room with no direct sunlight, it was only coming on here that made me realise it was an ND problem.
