Hi  Wondered if anyone had similar problem !!  I have a healthy litter of 7 week olds who have quite dry flakey skin (although they don't seemt o be itching excessively !)  The hair is fine and has not fallen out anywhere but the flakey skin comes of in quite large pieces !.  They are extremely healthy otherwise and fed on Beta Pup which I have always found ok.   I have just Stronghold treated them as I do with any pups before they leave !!!  ... Anyone any good ideas ?   Cheers  HS

I would have some scraps done as it could be demodectic mange.

i had exactly same problem with my last litter & ws panicking as well!!! My vet came & had a look & suggested a gentle sponging with dilute malaseb.....it was magic, disappeared in a few days!!

thanks for your comments folks !  think I will try the dilute malaseb first !!   Don't think its mange as their skin is the usual pale colour and not at all pink/red or inflamed !  HS

Skin doesn't have to be red or inflamed to be demodec....

FORM #2: GENERALIZED

The entire dog is affected with patchy fur, skin infections, bald, scaly skin.

Most generalized demodicosis starts as localized demodicosis.

 
 
  
ADULT ONSET-- Most demodicosis occurs in young dogs.  An older dog should not
get deodicosis unless it has an underlying problem with its immune system, possibly even cancer.  A veterinarian should be consulted regarding possible primary diseases.

JUVENILE ONSET -- 30-50% of dogs under age 1 year recover spontaneously from generalized demodicosis without any form of treatment. Usually treatment is recommended, though, to facilitate recovery.


 
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT DOGS WITH A HISTORY OF GENERALIZED
DEMODECTIC MANGE NOT BE BRED AS THERE IS A HEREDITARY
COMPONENT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DISEASE

If they were mine I wouldn't mess around experimenting, but get them examined professionally and treated appropriately.

You'll be homing them soon and if you haven't got evidence that they've been vet-checked and pronounced healthy before sale, and the new owners' vets find something should have been treated, you could find yourself with hefty bills to pay.

Thanks again for all your comments folks !!  Just been to the vet who has confirmed it is 'walking puppy dandruff - skin mite' and because I have just Stronghold treated, he said it should clear up !.  He also suggested Malaseb which I have just done !!  - by the way before anyone says - yes he did do a skin scrape to confirm !!!  thanx again HS
