I am fed up with seeing many dogs being walked in the extremely hot weather around lunchtime. The poor things are puffing and panting and the owners seem completely oblivious. I've also seen one tied to a bike while the owner peddled along.
When it's really hot I try to walk mine really early or late in the evening to avoid the midday heat.
I can't believe how many silly people there are
Is it just me!!!!!!!

It's not just you!
I have been amazed at the amount of dogs I see out in the day when it is seriously hot.
Like you, I go out early morning and late evening these days. I find it more pleasant for me as well to not be out in the middle of the day!!
Totally agree - I've seen no end of dogs being walked in the midday sun.

Owners walking along with hats on and bottles of drink for themselves - not a thought that the dog could do with some water or shade!!
Glazby is walked, as yours early morning and late evening when its cool and its actually quite nice for me to put my feet up at lunchtime and have a cuddle with him instead (oh and share my sandwich)!! ;-)

Tonight it was really breezy and cool, and I went out about seven.
When we got to the country Park they really had the wind up their bums, zooming around and acting like loonies

In the hot weather I take mine out about 9pm at the earliest.
Would take them out early, but can't rely on the kids getting out of bed for school/work if I was out with them then.

I confess to taking mine out at their usual time whatever the weather - just not for long though - 10 minutes on the lead rather than half an hour or so running. They're very much creatures of habit and start to queue up in the hall at their regular time, and get more and more agitated if they don't get taken. They settle down happily for the rest of the day once they've stuck to their routine.
I don't know the sort of area you live, but there are people around here who cycle to work and take their dogs with them. I agree 100% that unnecessary bike exercise, especially if the dog is being made to run, would be unkind.

I also have to take my dogs at their usual time as I work and run a B&B so they just have to fit in. The early walk isn't a problem but later in the day we head for the woods and shade.
As I live in a seaside town I see lots of people dragging tired and hot dogs up and down the high street and I do feel very sorry for them. Perhaps my next venture will be a day boarding kennel just for the local area.

I prefer early and late, but sometimes it can't happen. In the hot weather any way I walk them where there is a river or stream and start and finish with a splash about. I've found it harder keeping them cool indoors even with blackout blinds on the door to the conservatory, a ceiling fan and a normal fan on max output! Oh plus two paddling pools

i've also been taking mine out for their normal afternoon stroll about half two / three, although like JG, its just for a quickie so they can do their business and get some fresh air. I save the long walk for about 8 / 9pm when its cooler. They go out first thing for half and hour, too.
to keep them cool, i wet towels, wring them out to get most of the moisture out, them dot them round the house in the shade, and in the shade on the drive and patio area. Bu loves laying on them.
We normally go late afternoon and evenings, but i have been walking down by the river which helps him cool off. I think lately whatever time we go it's going to be very humid, i don't know what it's like anywhere else but it's been awful here. Luckily as we don't have set times we don't have to worry about Tyler getting restless. We meet an older man now and again with two dogs, and he says they are ready at certain times of the day when they are due to go out. So i can understand how dogs get into a routine. Unfortunately we are not the most organised of people so it's different times for Tyler.

I have taken my dobermann during the day, I also take a couple of bottles of water for him (none for myself) in my rucksack. We stop and sit under a tree for a while, but I do try to walk under the trees in the park, I am lucky as the park has lots of trees. When I leave it until the evening to go out, he drives me mad from the minute I get in from work at 10am to go out, he whines until we eventually go. A few times I have delayed until the evening, but he keeps bringing me toys to throw and play in the garden with.
i couldnt believe what i saw the other day whilst driving on the bypass, the car infront was one of those normal sized cars but the shape of a family carrier??? hope you know what i mean..
any way, the car was packed to the rim with stuff- holiday probably, but right at the the back behind all the luggage- pressing against the back boot window was a leonberger and gsd! both constantly panting and falling on each other- they had to take turns to sit up as there wasnt enough head space- how could they have been getting enough air?!
so when we stopped at traffic lights- i leant out a bit and shouted 'oi' to get his attention- he either couldnt here or completely ignored me, i felt like getting out an giving him an earbashing.
i noticed the car had disabled stickers all over it too
these poor dogs- i havent seen anything as bad as that when it comes down to people transporting dogs, they basically had about a quarter of the boot, the car was packed to the ceiling and there was no route for fresh air to travel to the dogs...

I was driving to my sisters the other day and saw a lorry with a trailer on the back. Amongst the cement mixers and bags of sand etc was a poor GSD trying to balance. The dog didnt seem too distressed but it clearly was a hazzard to both the dog and other drivers. I pulled along side the lorry and asked him why his dog was riding in the trailer and not in the lorry - his reply - 'It's too hot for him in here - I don't have air conditioning.!'
some people
