A couple of weeks ago I had Milo my 16 month little Jack Russell blood (titre) tested to see if he needed his yearly boosters, after losing my last 2 dogs Chocky and Kizzy at such young ages to auto immune disease, I now believe to have been caused by immunising religiously each year when they may not have needed it.
Anyway have his results back.
For Parvo a high titre result for no vaccination to be given is 128 his result was 4096 . He has incredibly high immunity already.
Distemper Again high titre result is 128 his was again showing incredibly high immunity at 1448
The CAV-2 he had a moderate result of 64% which means he has no need for a booster at present but advise to have levels checked again in a year, which I will.
Just so glad and relieved I didn't go shoving uneccesary vaccines into his body and maybe causing him other problems. (phew)
I have also just phoned up a few very good boarding kennels and explained the titre tests to them and they will take my dogs as the test results show more than a vaccination card that they really are covered against these diseases.
Bev
Excellent results, Bev :) Just proves how useful these tests can be. And, as you say, great that it's avoided pumping more vaccines into your dog unnecessarily.
Good decision :)

How do you know the levels will remain for a year in particular the lower one? Won't the kennels want you tested just before going in? Will their insurance cover them to accept dogs on this basis?

I am just going by the vet and report suggesting I titre test again in a year to recheck the levels of especially the lower one.
It is possible to question anything especially as some dogs do not take up the vaccinations that are given and so get no immunity from them, but yet will go into kennels thinking they are protected purely because they have a certificate to show they had the jabs. At least I have results showing what immunity my dog has at this time and I am sure if the vet and Glasgow University felt they would drop rapidly they would suggest a retest sooner.

If they knew for certain that levels did not drop beyond the recommended periods of cover the recommended periods of cover would be extended :)
Like you say, you have confirmation that the vaccine is effective at this time which is reassuring but if I was a kennel owner I would want that confirmed just prior to a stay and I would definately want to check the insurance.
But,Isabel, Bev is going on the vet's recommendations - something you've advocated very strongly on other posts recently.

I think you are twisting what I have been saying :) which is treat your own vet as the primary care professional they are. Do you think bev's vet advised her to titre test instead of vaccination? However, treating bev as an individual entitled to make that decision I don't see why we cannot discuss together the implications of that.
The vet who done the titre told her when it would need doing again. He would know more about it than Bevs normal vet.
You are being nothing but argumentative just for the sake of it Isabel.

I suggest you steer clear of personal comments Christine they are against the TOS.
The vet or lab that did the titre testing may suggest a return date but every vet will be aware of the recommendations for vaccination and the periods of time to which each is guaranteed.
I don`t need you to point me to TOS but maybe you should have a read, specially the bit about condescending posts
I`m perfectly entitled to say I think you are being argumentative, nothing personal about it, its my point of view ;)
And if you have nothing constructive to say to the poster I don`t see any purpose of you posting here :)
By Isabel

You posts are not only personal they are being more so. If we went about accusing everybody we disagreed with as not being constructive very little would be said. I suggest you stop this unless you are deliberately attempted to lock this thread?
Suggest all you like Isabel.
I`ve made a comment, or several which I believe I`m entitled to do. I`ve not been rude, just stated my personal opinion about your posts to Bev. How telling what you would think/do *if you were a kennel owner* has got anything to do with it I can`t figure out! You`re
not a kennel owner & don`t even use them......
If you want to quote TOS every time someone says something you don`t like about your posts then feel quote away

It's a turn of speach  if any real kennel owners have taken the huff they are welcome to contact me and I will appologise :)
I use kennels, I have mentioned that in this thread in fact.
You are not entitled to state a personal opinion of
me only on the subject being discussed.

I am getting very tired of this constant squabbling. May I suggest you both take it to email and keep it off the forum please. Many thanks :)
You are not a kennel owner tho are you
When titres are needed has already been determined by immunologists. This thread is of no interest to you so I fail to see why you`re even posting in it.

I use kennels. I would be a little miffed to say they least if my dog fell ill and the kennels insurance had been negated because they were accepting dogs against the terms. This could void the insurance on my dog whether the cause of their illness.

I beg your pardon, why is it of less interest to me than anyone else? As I say I suggest you consider the TOS before commenting further in a personal vein :(

Oh! I thought you vaccinated regularly and are so confident in the vaccines that the dogs won't fall ill???

Not all illnesses are ones we vaccinate against. If terms of insurance have not been followed they may not pay out on
anything.

Also this is a Junior youngster so the normal new protocols wouldn't call for him to be vaccinated for 3 more years.

Indeed, I had not spotted that at first until Christine pointed it out :) Although 2 more years now ;) Rather confusing when everyone is so delighted that levels are good after just one year

So you are right the kennels and their insurance companies would definately be happy at this point. Not sure if the 1 year boosters have been given though, have they Bev?
Thats great news Bev :D
Although you do know that for those 3 diseases vaccination is now only needed every 3 yrs, not 1 like before :)

If the titre tests show they are covered against those diseases, and the kennels are happy with that then I see no reason why yours or anyone elses dogs' would be at risk.
Great news Bev, I would also be relieved that I didn't have to vaccinate unnecessarily :)

I think the risk would be low anyway as my dog is vaccinated :) but the concern is if the insurance is made void because it was discovered dogs had been accepted outwith their terms no dog would be covered for any illness not just the ones vaccinated against.
>>>>if the insurance is made void because it was discovered dogs had been accepted outwith their terms no dog would be covered<<<<
And there you go again. I`m pretty sure kennel owners are fully aware of their insurance rules & regulations. It amazes me the little confidence you appear to have in them.
I mean you do know homeopathic nosodes are accepted by PAT dogs, some of those dogs must be boarded at some stage, therefore if there are kennels accepting h/pathic nosodes without breaching insurance I`m pretty sure the ones accepting titres aren`t either.

I've used the word "if"
I'm sure some PAT dogs are boarded but then I expect an awful lot of them will be vaccinated. Because the scheme accept nosodes why does it necessarily follow kennels will or their insurance companies?

I've used the word "if" it's just something I would wise to check now when boarding mine.

Whilst looking at Boarding kennels recently quite a few that I called informed me their insurance was for
accident only and they advised having private Insurance for dogs to be boarded with them. So it may well vary from Kennel to kennel.
Good News on the results Bev! :)

That is interesting I didn't know that. I know my kennels covers for illness, well at that time, which incidentally continues for several days after leaving as my vet pointed it out to me when one of mine was treated for secondary infection to kennel cough.
Hi Bev, Thanks for telling us about this - you must be very reassured now. I'm pleased the kennel you contacted has taken these results the way it has - it is quite true I think that this gives better proof of protection than a vaccination certificate as the latter doesn't provide any evidence that the dog has reacted effectively to the vaccine.

Great Bev! :)
Have you spoken to the Vets in Glasgow or just got a written report? When I spoke to them after similar results, the specialists told me that my dogs would never need vaccinating again because of the high results.

This is great news Bev, my puppy is off to have his first vaccination on Saturday and they we are following up 10 days afterwards with a titre. Your post has given me the confidence I need after losing my dog tragically through his booster in March.
