Our 15 week pup has started object guarding. If my 5yr old walks away from her table then comes back, paisley jumps and snaps at her. Paisley dosen't try to eat her food off the table, this has also happened with my trainers, when i lent down to pick them up she went for me as well! What shall i do? (She is 3/4 shepherd and 1/4 rottie) I'm a childminder and can't have her doing anything to any minded kids, i just don't understand her!
Toilet training worked a treat, thanks guys!

Hi Aly - Firstly it's hard to say whether what you describe is object guarding. Pouncing on trainers and doing an air-snap could easily be an invitation to play, in dog terms. Again, jumping up and trying to mouth can also be an attempt to play with your 5 yr old, albeit in an unacceptable way, she may not be intentionally being aggressive.
So I'd be wary of that - sometimes people who haven't had a dog before (not saying you haven't) can misinterpret what's happening.
What do you think she's guarding, in either situation? The food on the table? Your trainers (although she never had possession of them - or did she have them when you tried to take them?)?
