my bitch has a bloody discharge coming from her bits. she was mated on the 13th day of her season so if she is pergnant she would be on day 30. is this normal i am very worried the discharge does not smell she is a little down in the dumps and sicky but is eating well. any advice would be helpful.

Take her to vets asap.
- By Harmony Date 17.06.06 21:37 UTC
Definitely needs to see the Vet now as she could be aborting her puppies.

Good luck & please let us know how it goes.

Get her to the vet, hopefully they'll put her on a course of Synulox, if it settles down then just keep everything crossed.  If it starts up again ask your vet to leave her on Synulox till then end of pregnancy, we had this happen with our last litter and thankfully had a lovely litter at the end of it, even though on 3 occasions she did actually abort part of the litter.

Good luck, hope all goes well.

Agree with the others bek, get her to your vets, it could be anything as simple as Vaginitis which is a vaginal discharge and can be cleared up depending on what is causing it, cystitis (which can sometimes look as though blood is vaginal but is coming from her urine, she will be urinating a lot more frequently if this is the case) Pyometra, or she may be aborting her pups.  Only a vet will know which.

It is not uncommon to have a bloody discharge, so don't totally panic, but you need to get her to your vets to discount the more serious, no one else will be able to give an accurate diagnosis, there are many reasons for a bloody discharge.

Let us know how she is. I have my fingers crossed for you and your girl.

thanks everyone for their replies i will be taking eris to vets first thing monday morning. she seems very happy in herself. i dont no where the discharge is coming from as i have only found it on her fur between her back legs.
i have walked her this morning and met the usual other dogs in the park one was very keen to mount her and she was very keen to let him, usually when not in season she wont allow this( dont worry other dog has been done)

Bek your bitch should have been seen by your Vet already & not going out for a walk on the park!!

It's really important that you find out why she has the discharge ~ with other dogs finding her attractive I'd be worrying that she had a pyo :(  Have you taken her temperature?  Have you at least spoken to your Vet?

I'm going off to sit on my hands before I type something I may regret:mad:
- By bek [gb] Date 18.06.06 15:24 UTC
yes i have spoken to my vet and have made appointment she is not to concerned as she is eating and happy in herself. normal temperature thank you for you concern. type what you will i no i have done the best by her

I have replied to your PM.  I still stand by my concern that your bitch should see a Vet now.

Hopefully it's something and nothing as some can bleed into their pregnancy, but this is very rare.  If it had of been my dog I think that I also would have had her at the vets before tomorrow.

Keep us up-to-date on how she's doing!

just an update have taken eris to the vet this morning and she is fine the vet is not worried.
he did have a feel of her stomach but cant feel puppies so dosnt think she is pregnant, but we are having a scan done this afternoon to see.

he also said that if it had ben pyo or loosing the pups that she would have been in real pain and bleeding in pregancy is more common then people think. if she is pregnant i have asked can she have a course of antibiotics just to make sure (as long as pups wont be harmed).
- By Carrington Date 19.06.06 08:50 UTC
Really pleased it is nothing serious, will have fingers crossed that you have pups on the way, if not always next season! :-)

*A course of synulox if needed will not harm the pups at all and quickly clear up any infection.*

Good luck with the scan.

Just caught up on this - a small discharge about 15 days after mating is a pretty good indication that the bitch is in whelp.

it was a very small amount the vet said there was no sign of discharge and if i hadnt of mentioned it he would not have known. am just waiting for a phone call about scan. i have everything crossed

Hi

That is good news

My bitch bled on during her pregnancy. But it was after she had over exercised so i was very carefull about keeping her on the lead. She went on to have 3 healthy pups.

yes i am very happy he cant say how many he thinks it will be a big litter but can see at least 6. i was letting her of lead but did shorten her walks but have been advised not to let her mix with other dogs or let her off lead so i will do that from now on.
- By ridgielover Date 19.06.06 13:28 UTC
Hi bek
Was it the vet who advised you not to let your bitch off the lead?  I always exercise mine pretty much as normal - letting them take the exercise they want, until
they whelp.
- By bek [gb] Date 19.06.06 13:32 UTC
no not the vet someone on here. the stud dog owner did advise me to shorten her walks and to not get her over heated or excited, she has been very helpful i would have been a jibbering mes with out her
- By bek [gb] Date 19.06.06 13:35 UTC
sorry have re read the pm does not mention lead walking only keeping her away from other dogs which i can see the sence in last thing we need is an infection
- By Harmony Date 19.06.06 22:41 UTC
I am really, genuinely pleased that all is well with your bitch & there was nothing sinister going on.  Hopefully now you can rest easy & look forward to the tiny patter of paws :)

All the best

Hi  just read your thread and our little bitch bled very heavy for approx 5 days on approx 33 days !!  we took her to the vet who gave her some antibiotics and say he thought she was aborting the litter !!  - she went on to have four lovely pups !!! - someone once told me that if a bitch bleeds later on during pregnancy its that sometimes she may be having too big a litter and aborting some to compensat !!! - not sure how true it is and obviously you need to confirm with the vet .... but it does prove they are not always right !!!  Hope all goes well HS
