Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Judges ( how rude
- By peanuts [gb] Date 14.06.06 15:50 UTC
I was at three counties yesterday ( utility day ) with no dogs for a change so i could enjoy the day, and i was at a certain ring watching the judging. Afterwards we decided to have a drink in the bar ( not driving ) when the judge for that breed came in with her partner and some friends.
Well i must admit i have never heard anything like it. She started talking about the class and the dogs and how awful every exhibit was , and how there was not one there that was anywhere near breed standard, nothing compares to hers and nothing should be shown apart from hers and that she should be the only breeder of them.
Now they are not a rare breed they are one of the oldest breeds around and there were beautiful examples there, all of of which were slated something cronic, then she started about the people who own them, i can't type much about that because most of it was swearing but she was so rude about them, some of which like myself was in the bar and overheard her.
Has anyone else ever experianced this?
It should be an lovely experiance to be invited to judge a champ show and whether you like the dogs or not surley you should keep your opinions to yourself.

Well I suppose an opinion is exactly what you are paying for :)  That opinion will also be made public when it is published in dog press although it will be interesting to see if the same comments are repeated ;)

I bet she puts how wonderful they all were and how nearly all were up to standard :d

If they were that bad and she was that disgusted let's hope she tells it how she feels it should be stated, but for some reason I doubt that they will :d

There were no awards withheld , non cc day and only 30 odd dogs entered , but there were still some really nice dogs and people there.

they can still withold awards down to third, if they withold third then no awards can be given, though a BOB still has to be declared.

LOL @ Isabel's reply - very true of course :P

TBF probably most of us have commented inappropriately within earshot at some point - whether as spectators, exhibitors or judges.  She probably wasn't aware that she was being overheard - at least I hope that was the case!

It's always a good rule to keep any disillusioned opinions to ones self until travelling home in the car with an exceptionally trusted companion ;)  That way no feelings should end up being hurt nor mis-quotes doing the rounds.

regards, Teri

suggest you write what was in your thread, in Dog World letters......make her realise that walls have ears!!! I heard a classic one the other day at the BIS ringside.....
Well known dog person to breed judge...."where is XXX in the group judging, he went BOB surely?"
Judge: "he couldnt stay, he had to go home to work tonight"
WKDP: "oh, thats the trouble when you give BOB to working class types"
I laughed, it was soooooo funny!!!!
