I can't sleep so thought I'd come on here incase anyone else is still up :)

Tomorrow I've got to go for root canal on a back tooth   I've been putting it off time & time again (who can blame me!) but the pay off has been an abcess that just won't budge :(  I've had 3 lots of antibiotics but now the dentist says enough is enough, they need to get it sorted

Well tonight it's flared up again :(  I look & feel like I've been punched in the jaw, even my cheek is all red   I've been rinsing with the antiseptic wash, have smothered my gum & the tooth in anaesthetic gel, taken painkillers (prob too many  ) & have even just resorted so Clove Oil

I've only had root canal done once on a smaller tooth when I was in France last year & I didn't know that was what he was doing till he showed me the nerve he'd removed  lol!!

I'm now kicking myself for not having this tooth done over there when I went in April ~ last summer, the consultation with the dentist, 3 x-rays, small root canal with temp filing cost me a mere 35 Euro's   Tomorrows appointment is going to be costing in the region of £325   :(

Please think of me, I'm not looking forward to this one tiny bit but at the same time, if I could get it done right now, even at this un-godly hour, to get rid of the pain, I would!!

Feeling really sorry for you! Had a session at my dentist a couple of months ago, not as bad as what you're having, but horrible enough  Will be thinking of you today, sending good thoughts and support :-p

Feeling for you im waiting to go into hospital to have an impacted wisdom tooth out, it flared up a few weeks ago and ive never had pain like it no painkillers touched it, i had antibiotics and they started working after about 3 days, having kids is less painfull :D
hope you feel better soon.

Oh you poor thing. I would rather have a baby than go to the dentist, even though the pain doesn't last as long ;)

Good luck for today and hope it is not too painful ;)

Oh, you poor thing, I know exactly what it's like, I've had 3 major root canal treatments, two of them with no anestetic
The last one was almost 2 years ago, they couldn't find the 4th root canal and couldn't finish it so I still have a temporary filling there but so far it's not given me any trouble at all (***touching wood ***)

Tooth acke is the worst of all I think.

Sending you lots of good wishes and will be thinking of you.
Let us know how it went.

Ooh I know how you feel, had to have root canal treatment a while ago after suffering toothache that drove me up the wall:eek: must be the worst pain ever!
Hope you feel better soon!

The same thing happened to me a few years ago it started out as a tiny little abcess on the side of my gum due to some tooth decay, but two lots of antibiotics couldn't clear it, instead of taking out the tooth the new dentist said she would try and rebuild it, silly me had been advised by my old dentist to get the tooth removed, but i was to vain and the price i payed was an infected abcess, my face was swollen to the size of a cricket ball and i ended up in hospital for four days, as i had to have an operation to remove the absess tooth and all the other infection that came with it. The swelling was right across my windpipe so i had surgery the same day i woke up with the swelling. So make sure you get to the dentist asap!!!! I know what kind of pain you must be in.

Oh Louise that's awful :(

Well I've been!!  I've never, EVER, been sooooooo relieved to get the needle!!  Because of the infection & the fact that 3 lots of antibiotics haven't shifted it, she's drilled it & put some chemical in that goes right through the root to kill off any infection & as she put it "kill the cr*p"  She's put a temporary dressing on it & I've got to go back on 10th July to have it finished.

I did ask if it will hurt again when the anaesthetic wears off & she told me that it will "thump" for the next 24-48 hours :(  Hopefully if I keep popping the pills it won't be so bad   Also, I'll keep telling myself that last time apart from a little bit of stinging it didn't hurt at all ~ think they call it mind over matter :D

Thanks everyone for your support

Well done for being brave! From what I remember after I had the root canal the pain was more of an ache due to having my mouth open for so long:eek: No where near as bad as the toothache!

Oh good i am glad you have got it sorted, it's amazing what sort of problems can occur if you ignore toothache.

Well done, you are soooo brave.  I hate the dentist and only go in the hope they catch anything early before it turns into anything major.

Hope you don't feel in too much pain.

I think I was very brave too :p :D

I also normally hate the dentist but think I've struck gold with this one   She's brilliant, very calming & will only do what needs doing, will stop if you need her to ~ brill :)

Thankfully she put lots of anaesthetic in & touch wood, so far it's not too bad, I can just taste & smell Clove Oil ~ lol!!

Thanks again everyone, you've been brill
