I am starting dog training at a new venue from September. The hall has a wooden floor, which I need to cover as part of the agreement of use.
Coir -matting - is what I was thinking of using. Has anyone had to also source flooring? If so, where is best to obtain, or does anyone have any alternatives...or any disused matting that I could buy?
(I need to be able to store after each class, so lino not as practical)

All the training classes I've been to use strips of rubber matting that can be rolled up and stored after use. Much more hygeinic than coir - dogs in classes aren't always totally house-trained!

We use lorry tarpaulins(the old fashioned ones not plastic bought second hand) with rubber mats around the outside holding them down & a good vacuum & floor dust mop. Must say some weeks we have to clean up
before we can use the hall as the playgroup often don't bother !
Ours is a pet obedience class BTW

Our training class use a type of plastic/rubber mat that is easy to mop up if there is an accident - not so sure I would want to clean up a poo from coir matting and I would think a wee might cause problems as well
Hi Moonmaiden,
Where would I be able to get the lorry tarp. and where did you source the matting. Any info would help.
Sounds as if you actually run the class, where do you store or do you have to take each week.
I am able to store in a shed at the site of training.
Really appreciate your help

We chatted up a local haulage firm & 20 + years on we are still using them !! There are firms on the net that sell new ones
Matting like
this can be found on e bay
Thanks very much to you all for taking the time to reply.
I'm definately going to try the haulage route 1st. Sounds very practical.
Thanks for replies.Coir matting apparently offers some water repellancy - I would prefer rubber of lino, naturally.
But rubber mats for a large area could be a problem to store and transport - heavy and not that durable.
Has anyone got 1st hand contact details I could follow up?
Thanks in advance

I have coir on my stairs and landing and I can tell you that, whilst it is rubber backed, it is definitely not water repellant and trying to clean up poo from it is a nightmare! I'd go with the rubber matting or similar :)

we have 4 rubber mats and 4 carpet type mats that cover the floor. They are rolled and stored in a cupboard that we brought to store them in (also put table mats, cups, dog water bucket, mop and bucket, cones and cleaning stuff in there)
