Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Eating Alkanet wild flower?
- By ashlee [gb] Date 10.06.06 19:32 UTC
I have a wild flower growing in my garden which I think is called alkanet,it is the only one I can say really looks like the picture in the flower book, thing is my two dogs find it irristable and are always taking bites out of the leaves,I tell them off, and have pulled this plant up many times but seems to grow back as fast as I pull it up, it has never made either of them ill, but I do not know anything about this plant,I take it they wouldn't eat it if it was bad,but you know
Anyone out there?
Ash.

I googled "alkanet poisonous"

Most websites said that it contains an alkaloid, which is poisonous. I would dig it up good and proper by the root. Better to be safe than sorry.

Confused now though as another website says the raw flowers are an excellent addition to the salad bowl!
