has anyone been there (not a s a ourist, but more "travelling") I am trying to find out what the roads are like, driving conditions etc & how easy it would be to drive there from uk , if anyone has any experience good or bad I would be grateful.

It's now two countries - the Czech Republic and Slovakia ;)

If you can wait until August I am going to spend 3 days in the Czech Republic and a week in Poland!!  I am so excited (disproportionately so!),

I traveled to Slovakia last summer to pick up my puppy. My breeder lives up north towards the Czech border, so it took me quite a while. From my country I had to drive through Austria (past Wienna), I passed Bratislava and continued on a motorway up north. Roads are just normal roads,,..... they were mostly new and well maintained. People were quite friendly, younger generation mostly speaks German and English. I only spent 2 nights there so I'm probably not much of a help ;).

I've been driven across Europe to Prague and then we drove all around the country. We took the Hull/Rotterdam ferry overnight and were in Prague by about 9pm that evening. The travelling was fine, both through Holland/Germany and throughout the Czech Republic.

We were travelling around visiting Czech businesses and didn't have any problems with quality of roads at all.

If you are going in the next few months, take which ever has air-conditioning :D I'd also consider how easy it would be to repair your vehicle if it breaks down - I would have thought that Volvo would be better covered there than Land Rover :)

Not where your going, but we drove down to Croatia some years ago and didn't encounter any problems. It's even better now as they are in the EU so no problems at the borders :) In fact some of the roads are a lot better than around here :(

they both have windows that wind down Daisy!:cool:  thats what we call air conditioning! Thanks for break down thought, something we had not considered, off to consult with Volvo people as I know Landys have great cover in far off places but not too sure about volvos. Thanks again.
