My CKCS is now 9 months old and after a rocky start to feeding is now happily eating half and half of Burns and JWB turkey - my intention was to move onto JWB totally once the burns bag was used up!!
BUT - his wee absolutely stinks - he needs showering after every walk as he just reeks of really, really strong wee. Its reaching a point now where his fur is still smelling straight after a wash! I can't help but think this all started after the introduction of the JWB.
Is this possible? Can the food make his wee so offensive? There's no infection and no over frequency of needing to 'go' - just the terrible smell!
I'm sure he was never like this when he was on just Burns - but I can't remember clearly!
Today I've dumped the burns/JWB mix and replaced it with Burns/PAH puppy as a trial measure!
I just wondered if anyone else had had this 'wee' problem related to food?

Some males do just have a stronger odour than others, and 'marking' smells alot stronger than urintating when they are entire...

I would get a vet check,not to panic ;) but just to eliminate that it *could* be due to a Unrinary tract infection.
(The cause being feed, would be lower on my list of possibles, if that helps ;) )

Agree with HG - "marking" wee is definitely more likely to be stronger smelling than emptying the full bladder :rolleyes:  -  boys, huh!

Also he is more mature now and again adult urine is more distinct in odour.  I wouldn't expect his diet (certainly not as described) to have an impact on the strength of urine but of course without a vet check there is no sure way of knowing whether or not he has an underlying infection.  Although most times these are spotted by frequency of urinating, it's not an exclusive method of determining whether something else is going on.

Ensure he has constant access to and is drinking plenty of fresh water - he should naturally want more in this hot weather.  If he isn't, then his urine will be more smelly and also his kidneys will be put under strain.
