Not sure what is going on here but hoping somebody has suggestions!

My 6 large dogs sleep in the kitchen/dining room at night. They tend to sleep until one of us gets up, or if anybody needs to go out they will bark to let us know.

Yesterday I got up at the normal time, and there were 6, yes SIX!!, puddles in the kitchen. All up the freezer, cupboards etc, so clearly from the male dogs. (4 of them.) They had made no noise.

They then spent a couple of hours outside, then I brought them indoors as I was having a bath and I don't like to leave the dogs unattended outside in case they start to bark. In the hour they were in, another puddle appeared. It's clearly marking, but why?

Last night the dogs were let out at midnight for a wee, then again at 3 am (don't ask, but it's not normal routine!) At 7.30 am there were 2 puddles again!

2 things slightly out of the ordinary here: 1. the puppies are 6 weeks old and outside in the kennel -but that isn't anything the adults haven't experienced before. 2. My husband is away at the moment.

Ideas, suggestions on how to stop this?

it may be the same dog that's causing the puddles - perhaps a UTI problem rather than a behavioural issue?

Possible I suppose -how on earth would I find out who?

white tissue / kitchen roll delicately dabbed on dangly bits (clean piece each of course :D )  Dry - not that one!  Damp - possible ...   Damp/wet with colour - likely culprit (oops, patient :P )

That could be taken the wrong way    It's supposed to be a layman's scientific procedure :rolleyes: :D

The easy way would be if you were watching them outside and one of them obliged by repeatedly trying to empty his bladder or (less likely - the infection would have to be acute) passing urine with blood in it.  Otherwise you're limited to observing other symptoms of generally being unwell or uncomfortable.

Or, just seen the above, you could do the horrid thing with the tissues :-D

Well none of them do, it's been a quick pee when they get out, then they're busy playing or have a sleep (it's so hot!) it seems.

You could try checking temperatures although a localised UTI may not affect it.

You could also try putting some cranberry juice in their water bowls thus "treating" all dogs but at the same time getting to the one who "has the problem" :)

Apart from what's been said, how long is your hubby away for? Has he been away from home before and if so how did the dogs react? Could there be a bitch in season nearby? Male dogs do tend to mark more then (not that I'm telling you something you won't already know :D )

My husband is having to stay with his mother for 2 weeks -and no, this is the first time EVER. So it must seem odd to the dogs -it does to me! :) This  is the first week of the two. As far as I know all the dogs around here are male, but you never know of coruse, there's dogs all around us.

So there is a good chance that your alpha male (canine ;) ) has decided that he is now top dog and is marking his territory then :D
