ok please dont have a go at me but i need some help with my dog she is 13 months old and is just coming into her second season ,this is not the problem
the problem is i am hand rearing two puppies for a friend ( as i'm home 24/7 and have everything here the puppies need)
the puppies are doing fine and putting on weight nicely and are feeding well,
problem is my dog has taken a dislike to only one of the puppies:eek:, myself and OH feed then and we do not push our she out of it , she only get funny when this certian pup is being fed

any ideas on wot i can do to stop this?

the reason i am hean rearing the pups is coz the mum kills 7 of her litter and  the owner wanted to give these two a chance but could not do it himself at this moment in time:rolleyes:
- By Caroline Neal [gb] Date 09.01.06 20:20 UTC
Well done for giving them a chance!

Im not an expert but wonder if something could be wrong with one of the pups? I dont know if its fact or fiction but I have heard lots of people saying that sometimes Mums kill their pups and owners say that they suspect that its beacuse Mum instinctively knows that something is wrong with them.

Like I say I am no expert and im sure someone on here will correct me if I am wrong!!

I would say that all you can do is keep them apart.

Sorry not much help but good luck x

the mum is not here but somewhere else  and its was the bigger pups she killed by laying on them  i just wanted to help out and give these two bit of a chance.

oh before i forget  the pups are somewhere out of reach of my dog , she only gets to see them when they are feeding

Sorry, I wasnt clear, I meant that maybe as yours is in season she is feeling like mum and sensed something wrong. Im sure its not that but just a thought.

Im sure you are doing a great job and the pups will appreciate it!
- By slee [au] Date 09.01.06 21:21 UTC
mums can kill their pups for many reasons such as if they are ill, bad temprement in the mother, and because she is trying to protect them from strangers or her own family if she sat on them i would say that was it. do you always feed this puppy second because maybe you girl thinks its taking to long and doesnt want to wait for your attention so by the time you get to the second pups she has had enough of waiting. If she isnt accepting these pups i wouldnt have her near them until they are a little older and then slowely introduce them when they are older.

Also does this puppy growl alot some puppies are born natural growlers and this could be whats upsetting your girl

I wouldn't have an adult dog anywhere near the pups until they are fully weaned unless she is obviously maternal towards them - and yours clearly isn't.

she is never left along in the same room and the puppies , also they are fed between me and my OH and she is praised for "being a good girl" while she watches , the puppies only cry when they are being cleaned to "pee and poo" and my girl will wine with them as we tell her "you tell em baby to wait a min" ( silly i know but the only way to make her not feel left out), if she heards them wine shes comes looking for me or my OH to come to the puppies .

just thought i'd give you an update on the puppies
their now 9 days old and putting on weight ones built like a tank (lol) and the other one is cauching up with him (their both boys)

my girl is now great with them , she watches them when feeding , and they are still not left where she can get to them , she comes and gets me or my OH when they are wineing.

I have just read your posts about Max,well done for raising him from a teeny pup.

My query is about your comment about his brother,I thought his brother had gone back to be with his mum???
- By devishly_shell [gb] Date 12.06.06 13:09 UTC
his brother was taken back to his mum but he was stolen a few months ago and as of yet has not been found:mad:
- By RHODAP [in] Date 12.06.06 17:26 UTC
That is awful you must be heart broken after bringing him so far. I hope your friend gets him back.

My Mum was reading me a story from a Sunday paper earlier about a springer/cocker cross which had been stolen whilst out on a walk 5 months ago in Edinburgh and was found walking the street recently and returned to her. Someone had removed the distict white hairs from his tail which she had been mentioning in all the flyers. He was over weight and his pads were soft so he hadn't been exercised much or been walking the streets for long.
