My pups are now 4 weeks old and eating solid food no problems, the mother is going in to feed them once or twice a day and each time about 1/2 an hour after the pups bring all the milk back up????? I've never had this before. Should i just keep them off of mum and let them just eat the solid food, they are also drinking water. Also they keep sucking on one anothers willy's.
mum should be feeding more than once or twice a day- if they are sucking (whatever bits) they are still thirsty for milk. mum should have free access to pups 24 hrs a day. not sure about the sicking of milk- can you speak to the vet?
Thanks for the reply so quickly. So do you think i should keep trying her with the pups then? Does it really matter, if the pups are on a complete puppy food then i thought that they're getting all the nutrients they need. I can speak to my vet tommorrow.

Twice a day from mum is fine at 4 weeks old and I dont agree with full acces to mum at this age. Cut down to once a day at 5 weeks and stop at 6 weeks. Try letting mum in after pups have eaten solid food first then they wont be so hungry and wont drink so much which may be is what is making them sick.

Thankyou for the reassurance. I will give it a go. At the moment i am leaving food down all the time for them, as they don't seem to eat much when it is down for a few minutes. I will wake them up, get them to have something to eat and then let mum in. She doesn't even like going in with them anymore, i have to make her go in with them.
All bitches are different, some still feed their pups quite often at this age. I like the mum to have free access whenever she wants to her pups, to come and go as she pleases. Usually a bitch will feed her pups in the early hours of the morning. The pups breakfast should be put down approx 6am, they should all gobble it up (scrambled egg for instance) then another small meal a few hours later which should be gobbled down (soaked complete food) followed by chicken and rice? then a last meal of soaked complete.
The pups are probably sicking up the milk due to too much too soon and mum having a build up which is exiting too quickly. In my experience at 4 weeks mum should still be feeding at least 4 times a day/night with the food too, this is why she should have free access to go and feed them in between meals whilst weaning.
Have you checked your bitch for scratches, soreness, mastitis, all these things will make a bitch pull away from her pups sooner, check that the pups nails do not need cutting. (sorry if you know all this, but thought I would mention it nethertheless.)
Suckling on the willy's is completely normal (funny to watch I know :-D) until they realise there is no milk there!
I am putting the mum in with them at 8 in the morning and 8 in the evening and the pups are fine, they aren't being sick anymore, i think it was just a one off, they eat loads of complete food throughout the day and drinking plenty of water, they also have human scraps occasionally, i no i shouldn't but it isn't doing them any harm.
The mum doesn't have scratches etc as i cut their claws each week, so they are quite short. She just doesn't like being with them anymore, she was the same last time. Shes not the ost maternal bitch in the world. She liked making the babies, but didn't want them afterwards! lol!
The mother will feed less at this age that's natural as someone else has said, not sure about them being sick after milk though!
