Topic Dog Boards / General / ideas for holiday 30th anniversary
- By spellmaker [gb] Date 28.05.06 12:27 UTC
Hi we,ve decided to book a holiday for next april but are not sure where we want to go. Our pearl weding anniversary falls 2nd April so really we,d like to go a week before that, any ideas please thinking along the lines of Cyprus or Greece we really like Turkey but I,m not sure if its available that early in the season.
I,m off work this week woooooooh hooooh so I thought I,d spend some time looking on the internet and visit the travel agents whle I,m off . We haven,t been on holiday for five years because of not wanting to leave old dogs or young dogs .work commitments etc, so we,re using anniversary as an excuse to get on with it before another puppy comes to live with us so would like to go somewhere really relaxing withnot too many kids around as we just need to chill.
any ideas anyone
Sharon.

greece doesnt seem to open untill may but cyprus does, choose resort carefully though as liveliness varies a lot. we wanted to go there last april but there was nothing ,season hadnt started, so we went to majorca ,the northern rugged quieter side and that was good.

How about Morocco ? A colleague had a long weekend there recently (may have been in April) and stayed in a riad in Marrakech - really enjoyed it :)

A friend of mine went to Dubai and absolutely loved it. It was a very chilled holiday.

I came back from Dubai a couple of weeks ago.  Fantastic, luxury and very chilled.  Weather would be nice and hot for early April.  Would be great for a special anniversary.

Hey Sharon, Greece is definately open all year!! Try Lesvos, we have a house there and it's a beautiful place. There's a touristy place up on the North of the Island, or if you want more Greece then think about the South/South East. Our house is in Polichnitos, the lady that helped us buy our house also runs a Travel company. If you want a link PM me and I will give the addy for you, all the best, Dawn

Forgot to say, if you can book early you can get Easyjet to Athens and then Olymous air to the Island, works out really cheap and there are loads of places to stay, do a search for Madonna Apartments.

Right everyone we,ve decided on Cyprus {for now that is}  now I need to know if I should go for Limmassol or Pathos so come on hands up who,s been and whats it like?
I,ve found a hotel caled pioneer beach  in Pathos I rather like the look of I,m just frightened of getting it wrong as per usual hubbys left it all up to me so if its wrong its my fault I,ve ben looking on review sites and it may be a bit quiet but that may not be a bad thing also they don,t accept bookings from people under sixteen years of age which hubby says is just what he wants so shall I go for it or not?

I played squash in the Cyprus Open in '94(was even the runner up!) and we went back the year after we'd been to Lesvos. I was very disappointed in the commercialism of it now, however for a Holiday I think it's great. You really need to hire a car wherever you go on the Island. However, for me, it would have to be Pathos. It's very nice area with a lovely harbour. There's lots of interesting stuff to look at. It just wasn't somewhere we decided to live, which is why we chose Lesvos. All the best, Dawn X (Limassol is very touristy, loads of restuarants, but a little too 'Blackpool' for us!!! LOL)

Thanks Dawn I didn,t know you were an ace squash player:cool:
I,ve almost booked it got to the last detail stage twice and backed of why do they always leave all the decision making up to us girls?

Hi Sharon!

Definately definately Paphos!!!!!
(My OH's brother and family live out in Cyprus by Kato Paphos, but have just moved to the Troodos Mountains) PM me if you want any info (I will send you a long one on good places to go..you will be spoilt for choice)
I dont personally like Limassol, although Paphos is just as 'touristy' its much prettier with much better beaches and resteraunts.
Paphos has a lovely old Harbour its much much more scenic than Limassol. Drive out to places like Lara Beach ( a turtle sanctuary beach..so lovely and quiet..its a well kept secret often your the only ones there..idyylic!!) Some gorgeous Monastries out by Phaphos too (one carved in caves in a cliff face lovely shady pine trees round it a real tranquil spot, and really interesting exploring the caves with alters built into them)
I dont recognise the Hotel youve mentioned but will ask OH he'll know it and I'll get back to you. April is a lovely time to go!!!! Lie on the beach in the morning then drive up the troodos mountains in the afternoon and you'll be in snow!! and this is where you find the BEST local mezze resteraunts! (and there's a Husky team too ( :D) to take you on a sled ride!! will give you details if your intereseted!!)
Right Im waffling  Let me know if you need any info...but definately definately go for Paphos!!! :D
(any more info will cost you...a place in your suitcase for me!!!)

Cheers HG it all sounds really good thanks for the info, I,m just a little worried as neither of us drive .Do we really need a car or would it be better if I left little grey man at home ans took you instead so you could drive me into the mountains for a husky sled ride that sounds great fun.
If your OH knows any good hotels please let me know though I,m hoping once we finally get there we,ll love it whichever hotel it is.
bye for now

No, absolutely no worries on the not driving front!! The local blue bus service is amazingly good!!!! usually in Greece you joke that the busses run on a GMT timetable (thats not Greenwich meen time..thats Greek Maybe Time!!!) ;)
But I have to say I see them regularly..even in the more quiet far out resorts and plenty of people use them!! (will find out for you but Im sure they run every 20 mins or so, and even more frequently if your in Paphos itself from the Harbour)
As its a year round resort and all the 'golden years' travellers go out for months at a time in winter its perfectly catered for those that dont drive, and there's plenty of good 'tours' as well so you wont miss out on seeing some of the sights such as monastries and mountains because you dont drive. :) dont forget to chuck the wee grey man into the water at Aphrodites Rock he will come out looking like Pierce Brosnan!! (Birth place of Aphrodite and an elixir of youth if you bathe there!! :D ;) )
Will get back to you on hotels. :)
