Hi all,
After some opinions here really. well my dog was diagnosed on Wednesday with having this condition, I was wondering if any of you out there have experienced this and how your dog contracted this terrible infection? In the back of my mind I am pretty sure how my boy caught it, but it is trying to prove it that is causing a problem *vet related *but as i wasn't there to witness the procedure at the time, I have even more of a slim chance of proving this. I would be open to any opinions and if I have missed anything as all the vet can come up with when confronted about this is 'it would have already been there'  but how it got there is what I am trying to find out :-)

Do you mean Discospondylitis?

http://aolsearch.aol.co.uk/web?query=Discospondylitis.

The above web page will give you any number of links to information about this condition.

You call it both a condition and an infection.   These would have totally different causes.

If you mean Aspergillosis infection in the spine then this can be caught simply by breathing normal air as the fungus is present naturally.  It  usually, only causes a problem when large quantities of fungus are breathed in (eg. Farmers Lung) or the immune system is compromised in some way.

Hope this information is helpful for you

Dill

Just read some of your other posts regarding Blade and his illness.  The site above may also be of interest to you.

Sounds like you are both really going through a bad time at the moment.  Sending {{{HUGS}}} and healing thoughts.

Dill

Hi thanks Dill,
well it has taken them since easter to find the problem and he is improving so much, but obviously isn't 100% yet. I wasn't sure if it could have been caused by an injection hitting the bone?? as at easter when all this illness started he went to the vet with high temp and came out with a bad neck and a massive lump tennis ball size which he had for nearly 2 weeks and that was the injection site, I was told this is normal? anyway I will look through those links and yes I did mispell  typing in a hurry!!
The vets just don't seem to explain anything even when I am asking them!

Hi Emz, It wasn't a spinal tap your dog had at Easter?  Where the vet inserts a needle between two vertebrae and takes a sample of fluid?

no just plain antibiotic injection and one to take his temp down? but I wasn't sure if something went wrong as it was a different vet to his usual one (but at the same practice) and it was her first day. obviously they were very concerned for him at the time and rushed him through to put him on a drip so I don't know if in there haste they hit a bone or something and this has caused the infection?
