I posted a couple days ago about a pregnant rescue dog. I just wanted to get your opinions, she has been pacing all day, temp was 100.7 this morning and 99.3 tonight, it has been going down all day. Earlier, she was panting and had clear discharge. I feel so sorry for her, she looks miserable, I just hope this is it and she can get this over with. As far as the vet says she is only supposed to be 55 days along, but I think he was off and she is further along. Anyhow, I know there are tons of signs and she isn't having alot of them but, well I guess maybe I just needed to talk to someone. Thanks for listening, Liz

It certainly sounds as though you're going in the right direction. The temperature often goes up, just .2 or .3 in the evening and that's quite normal, but if it's staying down, that's good. It normally drops to just under 99 and then they say the bitch should produce within 24 hours - mine don't usually wait that long! Pups born up to 7 days early are normally viable, but vet's are usually too expert with scanners so don't put too much weight on the number of days you've been given.
The clear discharge is normal too. It's the plug that seals the uterus and stops bad things getting in and good things getting out!
I don't know if you've been pregnant yourself but towards the end is VERY uncomfortable. I'm sure your girl feels the same too. Too fat to get comfortable, no room for her stomach to digest her food, no room for a full bladder etc. Talking about that, as her time comes nearer, she'll want to keep going into the garden to empty herself. That's another sign to come.
Liz, I'm really pleased that you're sitting with her at this unearthly hour of the night! So many just go to bed and leave their bitches to do it on their own. I'm sure that mine are reassured by my presence although I try not to interfere unless necessary, and sometimes it is. The litter I have here now, their Mum still doesn't know where they came from! She didn't look under her back leg once when she was whelping, not even to clean herself! She thought they were aliens when I showed her, but within 24 hours she settled to be a great Mum!
This is the worst time Liz - the waiting. The pleasure is just around the corner. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, we are doing OK, seems things have stopped for now. She stayed in her whelping box all night and is sleeping in my bed right now. Her temp is at 99.6 this morning so who knows. I will post more as things progress.
Thanks, Liz

Thanks so much. Seems she was fooling me with the temp. Today it was back up to 99.7 all day and no more discharge. She is sleeping alot, eating well and seems fine. I guess she still has a few day to go. The waiting is the hardest. She has a vet appointment on Thursday for another x-ray, if she makes it till then, which at this point I think she might. Poor thing, I just want it over for both of us, especially her. I will post if anything happens between now and Thursday, if not I will let you guys know what they say then. Congrats on your new babies and thanks for everything, Liz
