I've just received Earls 5 generation papers and would like to look into his family tree.  Obviously I'm going to Google the names of his parents, grandparents etc to see what pops up but are there any other places I should check out....?

I'm just keen to find out anything and everything about him and his family.

A good place to start would be his breeder,obviously, then the breeder of his father. I researched my RR bitches pedigree by phoning the stud dogs kennel as they were well known breeders.;-)

Try the breed club as well as they know eveyone!

a good person on here as well is Carina, AKA, Ridigelover as she has been involved with the breed for a long time and was able to shed some light on my pedigrees (well, the dogs not mine of course! ;-) )

if you can get old copies of the KC stud book then they have loads more info in them, names, sires inf, wins etc.

Thanks everyone else for the advice.  I've emailed a few of the breeders in the hope they have some info and pictures of the dogs I'm looking for.

I don't know about the Ridgeback parent breed club, but in my breed the yearly Journals (yearbooks) have not only stud and breeder adverts and photos's but all the litter registration, new champions etc details, show wins for that year, etc.

It would be a good idea after joining the breed club to purchase back issues of these anuual publications.

I started with the last 10 years, then got the 10 befor that, and have many going back right to the 1950's.

You can then see pictures of famous ancestors, and often ones of them as pups and young dogs which is very interesting.

You can see where certain traits seem to strongly come from too.

Being involved with ridgebacks myself I use the following site just for this breed (yes some very kind person has spent the majority of their life putting in Ridgeback data!) and if you are lucky you will find out more info you want to know. Both my dogs are on it and it is a great way to see different lines,trial matings pedigrees etc..take a look and see what you think! WWW.rhodesian-ridgeback-pedigree.org

What an utterly amazing site!  I've just found the pedigree for the first RR my father bought for me when I was 5 in 1979.....  I was so excited I had to ring my father and then email him the pedigree; we're going to see if we can get a photo of Red (Riva Robin) added to the site.

I've added Earls pedigree (look out for 'Bomvu Indoda' when they do the next database update) and am beginning to find some of his relatives (mainly in the great grandparent and great-great grandparent age, it seems a lot of the more recent RR's haven't been added).  I'm really enjoying this.......!  Thanks.
