Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Bath Show,Hotel or drive down???

We'll be showing on the Sunday and we wern't going to stay over, but make the 3 hr drive down(M6-M5-M4). Now OH thinks we should perhaps stop over and save any last minute panic. We would like to find a travel lodge as it's cheap, however they are all booked according to their website. What's the chances of us calling them on Saturday afternoon and picking up a cancallation and if we do, is it worth it or should we just set off from home as planned? Where is the best place to stay? What is the queueing like comming off the M4?? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks,

I did bath show last year on the Saturday and had no problems with traffic (although you should check for road works first) I live in Basingstoke and it only took me just over an hour to get there.  Staying down there for the weekend though this year in caravan

Hi Spiritulist, what have you decided to do regarding staying over?  For us it is about a 5 hour journey and we were contemplating the same thing.  I just don't fancy forking out another £46 ish for accomodation although it will proabably be worth it to get there without worrying!

What have you decided?

Hi Lynne,
Sorry I'm late getting back, but first chance today. I am going to see if I can get a cancelled booking on Sat morning, if not, we're driving down on Sunday. It's £46.00 like you've found, if I book now and the cheap hotels are only £26.00 so I'll try and pick up one of them if I can. I've heard the queueing is not to bad on the day and judgeing does not start for Dobe dogs till 10.ooam and I am showing my bitch, so I'm not to worried. Good luck to you and lets hope the weather breaks for us.

Hello Spiritulist, £46 is a bit much when you have forked out for entries and fuel isn't it?  We are going to set off pretty early and hopefully miss any traffic.  My husband has given me alternative routes if there is any sticky parts (HGV driver) although that still does not mean to say we know where we are going!  I am in 2nd class (puppy dog) and we start at 10 too.  Good luck and we will maybe speak again after the show?

Good luck.

Lynne xx
