After watching a friend of mine get Best of Breed at Redditch show on Saturday with her puppy (automaticlaly giving her BPIB). I was excited when she got Utility Group 1.
She went back in for the Puppy Group thinking she'd got it automatically, then the judge was wandering around with rosettes. Something didn't seem right, so I spoke to the steward, asking him if the judge did realise that was the Utility Group winner so automatically the Puppy Group winner. I was dismissed rather rudely that this was a different dog even though I said it was my friends and the dog had gone BOB and BPIB.
Well my jaw dropped as my friend got Group 4 in the puppy and then the fun began.
I couldn't believe the judge did not recognise the dog she had given Group 1 to let alone it had been the same judge that had given my friend the BOB with her puppy in the first place.
Once the committee had explained her error to her regarding automatic Puppy Group winner, her reply was SINCE WHEN?
I'm not naming names but this was a judge who gives out CC's (including at Crufts this year) who didn't know one of the simplest rules in Group Judging.
As you can imagine it put my friend out of the Both Sections for BIS and BPIS which she was not happy about. But I also felt sorry for the lovely pup that did get the puppy Group. What happens if that went BPIS, only to have it taken away. A total embarrassing cock up.
Oh no, What a real C*** up!!!!
