My male dog has been neutered and the vet said that the sperm can live inside for up to 3 months.  Unfortunately, my son left our gate open and my bitch mated with the male, actually is was 3 months since he was neutered, they did tie.

The bitch has become very affectionate and it would be about 25/27 days ago that they mated.  Can anyone tell me if they have heard of a bitch getting pregnant with a neutered male.  If would be interesting to know if this has happened.

I don't know where you get your ideas from.  Did I say the bitch was the daughter.  No - in fact they are not related at all, and if she was pregnant I would be pleased although it would not have been planned.

Yes, in your earlier posts you say you have a three year old bitch, a dog and their daughter who is now 18 months and you were trying to mate a few weeks ago. Is this not the same bitch you are talking about? Or do you mean you have THREE bitches?

Yes, your earlier posts say that you have a dog (now aged 4), a bitch (aged 3) and their daughter (now 18 months). Is it the older bitch who's been mated? I'm a little confused (not difficult! ;)) - your older bitch had her second litter in December? (You said your 'other bitch and the puppies' father' were very interested.)

Look my younger bitch had her season in February, my older bitch had a litter in November.  The older bitch had her season in April.  It is the older bitch that has mated with the neutered dog.  Yes it would be her next season and not a very good idea to mate but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

It seems to me that every time I post on this website somebody is ready to have a go at me, either that or you are all ready to judge somebody and make people look like they don't know anything about breeding.  I can assure you all I adore my dogs and would do nothing to harm them in any way.

It seems to me that you have to explain yourself profusely to get anywhere on this website.

If I need any answers to a simple question again I will go elsewhere.

The simple answer to your question is "Yes, it happens".

I beleive a case was proved by DNA testing of a male fathering a litter a lot longer than 3 months after being castrated.

Now would be the time to have her palpated by a vet with the knack or have  her scanned.

She coudl also be safely spayed at this poiont, or be given Alizin up to 42 days after mating to abort a litter.

Thanks for your reply.  Very interesting, the vet was right then.  I will keep you informed, as I say she is only showing signs of being very affectionate at the moment, she could well be having a phantom.

I have always wondered whether bitches that have been mated (but are not pregnant) are more likely to have a phantom than ones that haven't.

Both my youngest two hav failed to get in whelp on their last matings,b ut gave a very convincing performance of being pregnant by their behaviour, yet I ahve never had problems with pahntm pregnancies before?

My bitch had a phantom on the next season after her first litter, although she did not mate.

Maybe having litters sets their hormones off, I think they tend to have phantoms when they have had litters.
