My 16 month olf bitch, has just come into season again, its only 3 months since her first one. I have had bitches before with 4 monthly seaons, but 3 months seems a bit unusual. Has anyone had a bitch with 3 monthly seasons?

Are you counting from the first day of the last one or from when herseason ended?

Intervals of less than four months can be associated with cystic ovaries, or again it coulde the bitch has had a split season where hormones were insufficient to amintain the season ans it subsided only to try again now.  Problems with seasons can also be a sign of under active thyroid.

It may be worth doing a premate test to check if she is ovulating.

1st day of her last season was 14th February, my males started showing interest in her, and when I swabbed I found her to be bleeding yesterday 18th May. Her last season went nearly 4 weeks, so it wasnt a short one. I bred her, but got her back at the end of January, her previous owner didnt know whether she had already had a season! Her sister whom I had kept, had a 1st season last October, and 2nd in beginning of April. I am pondering on whether to have her spayed, if she proves to be 3 monthly, even though she is a beautiful bitch.

I have had several of my bitches have frequent seasons when young, but they all gradually stabilise at around 27 to 30 weeks intervals.

At 16 months I would wait to see what she does next time at least.

Also have you had another bitch in season recently?

Yes, you are right, I am probably panicking for nothing really, her sister had a season on 2nd April, so not really recently, so I wouldnt say she has brought her in. it is just so unexpected, and a nuisance seeing as we have her entered in shows.
