I would like to know the difference between an open and limited show.I have entered my Labrador in exemption shows before and wondered what the next step was. I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and would love to go to a 'proper' show to see what they are like. Does anyone know of any such shows in my area in the next few months? Any help would be much appreciated.
Best Wishes
Amy

Amy First of all is your lab registered with the Kennel Club, if he is not I am afraid you cannot take part in any shows other than exemption. A Limited Show is limited in who can enter in some way i.e. members of a club or specific breed/s of dog. An Open show is open to all. As to shows local to you I have had a look in the dog papers and found one at Driffield which looks fairly close to you. It is being run by the East Riding Gundog Society and is on Sunday 8th Sept. The secretary is Mrs Hartley Email WESLAVE@aol.com and she might be a good person to contact for advice. If you are thinking about getting more involved in showing it might be a good idea to order one of the weekly dog papers from your newsagent either Dog World or Our Dogs, there are ads for shows etc as well as breed notes show reports and general articles. Both these papers have websites just enter the names. Good Luck and have fun

Hi Amy
Anne is right, you should get one of the weekly dog papers and/or join a local ringcraft club. ;)
Just to add a little to Anne's post, you should realise that stepping up to Open shows from Exemption shows means that you no longer just turn up on the day, you have to enter in advance, sometimes 6-8 weeks in advance fo CH shows! :O
I hope you get started OK and I wish you luck. :D

Hi Amy
if you go to the "dogs on tour" website - put it into a search engine and it will come up, then go to the list of shows. It gives you a whole list of Champ Shows in month order, all over the place...Tell's you who the secretary is for a schedule and what the closing date is..
I agree with the other posters, it is quite different from and exemption show or open show., but as long as your dog is KC registered, you can enter...go with an open mind though !! :D
