I have a 16 month old GSD and I have no idea what amount of protein he "should be on".
Protein content on commercial food labels is not very informative. It does not tell you how much of the protein is complete or incomplete or what percentage of it is bio available to the dog. Theoretically you could have a food made out of 100% protein (eg leather) but it would not do your dog any good.
If you feel you need guidance you might go to your breeder if they have bred successful, healthy litters over a number of years or you might consider using a brand such as Arden Grange which is marketed by a couple who own, breed and kennel GSDs etc.
Alternatively I believe there is a custom made diet for GSDs marketed by Royal Canin.
Not sure if that helps you or not.

If her weight is good (you can just feel her ribs when you stroke her sides) you can feed her any good quality complete adult or junior food (check the package for age guidelines). She will continue maturing for at least the next 6 months and I don't personally believe a low protein food is appropriate until fully mature, unless there are other circumstances (she's fat, she hyper, etc.) Personally at her age I would not use a food that has less than 20% protein and would opt for something a bit higher.

Thanks that is really helpful. You can feel her ribs when you stroke her but i was a bit worried she was to thin as my sisters gsd is to my mind to fat and is not quit 12mths yet. I did have her on 20% protien but just moved her on to a food with 24% protien.
Hi
I also have a 12 month old GSD, who I was feeding JWB puppy until 9 months whenI changed over to Junior, unfortunately he did lose weight, in fact he weighed 35kgs at 6 months and only 33.5kgs at a year. The vet put him on Royal Canin Junior last week which is 32% protein!! and told me to feed him this until he is 18months old. He seems to be doing really well, hasnt lost any more weight but I am going to wait another week until I reweigh him. Because he is so active (Not indoors) but when he is out I also have been told to feed more than the recommended guidelines. With the odd Bonio in between.
